The staff were very kind and helped us when trying to plan what to do during our stay, they definitely went the extra mile. Perfect location too.
Set in a 16th century fortress overlooking Horta Bay and Pico island, this Pousada hotel features a swimming pool and regional restaurant. Most of the air-conditioned rooms have views of the marina.

We first had a normal room, but these were really a bit small. For 50 Euro a night extra we got a suite, which is like an apartment and has a separate bedroom and a big balcony. You have a spectacular view on mount Pico and the harbour. The staff are very nice, the building is an old fort and the entire feeling is one of a Spanish Parador. To be honest, I believe this is one of the few luxury hotels on Faial (but I did not visit all the others:)). When you leave, there are plenty restaurants and bars in walking distance. The restaurant of the hotel is also very good, but the menu is very very short and did not change during our stay. We got a later check out without trouble.
Located in the old Azorean town of Horta, the newly-renovated Hotel Horta offers views of Pico Island. It features rooms with balconies, a large garden and an outdoor pool.

Loved the old city...however, construction was taking place which made getting around by car a little confusing. Loved walking around the waterfront and seeing the famous marina as well as the artwork created by mariners. Shopping in the local stores was a good experience with prices that you don't feel taken advantage of. Shopping in the city's Mercado was also a nice experience. Trying new restaurants around the city was also a good experience. While there, rent a car...best way to get around as public transportation is not regular or abundant. Also, try to visit the neighboring island of Pico on the ferry and spend a few days there...lots to see.

Island more quiet than Sao Miguel, felt more centered around the sea. A good mix of sea and land. A few good walks along the shore or around a caldera or inland. Unusual landscapes. The roads are very good compared to Sao Miguel.

We have now visited Horta 13 times in eight years, and will continue to visit in coming months/years. For a small city in the middle of the North Atlantic, Horta has a very welcoming feel, and is an ideal base for people wanting to visit the central group of Azorean Islands.
It's easy to walk around, and the rest of the island of Faial is accessible through day tours, e.g. with Azores Experiences who we would highly recommend. There are whale and dolphin watching trips from March - October, together with walking tours, Caldeira descent (which requires a formal guide and cannot be done alone), and a visit to the volcano and interpretation centre at Capelinhos is a must.
There are a good number of excellent restaurants (Atletico, Medalhas, Genuino, Taberna do Pim, etc.) and the Oceanic bar and restaurant (their barbecue is superb) to try locally caught fish and local beef. For a good value breakfast or lunch, there are plenty of small cafes (e.g. Cafe Silva, behind Peter's Cafe) which offer great hospitality.
If the weather is good and you fancy a relaxing day, there is also the beach at Porto Pim, which is used regularly by visitors and locals alike.

Nice little layd back town with astounding views of the islands Faial and Pico with their different and mystifying volcanoes, over the ever present calming ocean sights and sounds. Friendly locals serve all kinds of traditional and popular dishes and snacks, and offer quality lodging depending on your wishes and wallet. With a rental car, taxi or public transport it's easy to visit interesting geological, natural and cultural locations spread around the island. There is a lot of time and space there to come to yourself or interact with the local community.

Thelma and Carlos were very helpful
Thelma and Carlos were very helpful
The accommodation was spotless. Thelma brought us fruit and tomatoes from her garden. The room was large and kitchen well equipped. There was a lot of rain when we visited and it was cold but Thelma provided thick blankets.
Casa BuonVento was a wonderful find in Horta, Faial. Elena and Jerry are the most amazing hosts and did everything possible to make my stay with them perfect! The guest house is well appointed and they have thought of everything in setting up the kitchen facilities and rooms for their guests. 🙏
The location is great and within walking distance to the center, restaurants and marina. The room was quiet and very comfortable. I would highly recommend staying at Casa BuonVento when visiting this beautiful town of Horta. ❣️❣️
We appreciated the warm welcome and easy check in, with keyless building and room access. The rooms look out over the harbor, and the hotel could not be in a nicer spot. Free parking was plentiful, and there is a lot behind the hotel as well.
Nereida is perfect for self catering. You have a kitchenette in the room, plus a fully equipped kitchen in the common room. So you can cook a bigger meal in there if you want. It is also close to several good restaurants and a market.
We would recommend it to anyone for sure.
Great apartment. Very spacious. The kitchen was well equipped. Salt, pepper, oil and vinegar were present as well as some coffee capsules. There was detergent for the laundry machine available.
The layout of the apartment is well-thought-out and is tastefully decorated. It is at the north end of town and you need to walk about 20 minutes along the bay to get to the more busy part.
We will definitely choose it again if we come back to Horta.
You come to this hotel for the pool and the location! It's clearly a hotel with some history, and while it could use some updates here and there...it's overall a quite nice stay. It was a perfect place to swim with views of Pico mountain and feels secluded from town, but is actually only steps away. Very walkable for Horta itself.
The staff was very helpful and knowledgeable as well, breakfast was ample and fresh, parking included.
The room was extremely spacious and it was possible to cook something if necessary. When I booked it I thought it was only a room but they were all small apartments with kitchenettes. The hotel is situated by a quiet road and has fantastic views to the sea. There is a snack-bar downstairs where you can have burgers or other quick bites. There's a car parking and it's fast to drive to Horta. A nice place to stay near Horta.
The location of this hotel could not be beat! Right on the main street in Horta with easy access to cafes and restaurants. Overall we enjoyed the room, it was very spacious with great windows to let in natural light. I'd recommend booking the bed and breakfast package because the breakfast was fairly substantial and kept us full until the afternoon.
Everything was perfect, the lady at the reception which was very sweet, the super modern and comfortable room, the common and fully equipped kitchen and living room with an amazing view on Porto Pim and Monte da Guia, the nice touch with the free coffee all day long.
Really, the best stay in the Azores for us ! With a great price for value.
Very nice hotel just in the center of Horta. Walking distance to all important places.
Nice and well equipped room with perfect view, very comfy bed and big bathroom.
Wellness center 10-22 free for guests.
Very good breakfast. They prepared a surprise for us on our honeymoon, thanks for it :)
I can perfectly understand why this is a 4 star-hotel: everything was just great, from the spacey rooms to the friendliness of the staff to the great breakfast ánd very good lunch and diner foodquality. I would go there again if I’d come back to Horta
The best place to stay not only in Horta but in the entire Azores, trust me on this one. Super nice, comfortable, modern, extremely clean... Great central location. Staff is wonderful, helpful, kind and friendly. I'm definitely returning soon!
A great place to stay in Horta. Very handy having the use of a kitchen, especially on Sunday when most eateries in Horta seem to close. The people I dealt with were friendly and helpful. Good continental breakfast.
The apartment was spacious, comfortable and had all the necessities. The hostess was lovely and helpful. The garden was beautiful with a gorgeous view of Pico. Good location a short walk from central Horta.
out of my four hotels in Azores, probably the most comfortable stay. The room was nice, although rather smaller. The bathroom was large, so was the shower. Close to ferry terminal and beach.
Enjoyed my stay at Kosmos...Location is optimal for exploring Horta...The View from the Apartment is Amazing...The Studio had everything I needed...The Staff are friendly and helpful!
Charming house with a lovely garden in a quiet neighborhood. Great resting sleep, tasty breakfast. Thoughtful hosts that care about their guests. Will come again for sure.
The room was comfortable and clean. The hotel was located near the harbor and many restaurants. The breakfast at the ground floor cafe was convenient and tasty.
