“Perfect place to base yourself. My room was sparkling clean. It had big glass doors that opened out onto the pool area. Great if you want to relax and have a swim before heading out for the day, and a lovely setting in the evening to enjoy a glass of wine and watch the moon rise! Marcello the host is extremely helpful and will look after you well. I recommend you getting a car, as quite a few of the sights are a fair drive away. It’s worth going to Sant Isodoro, Porto Ceasaro, Porto Prosciutto, Sant Maria Al Bagno and my favourite Porto Selvaggio. Salento is a beautiful part of Italy. “I stayed a night at the lovely Palazzo Cairney and would throughly recommend it. The property is large and recently renovated with great care and attention to detail. There is a modern kitchen with all the facilities you could wish for, a large lounge with an amazing double height vaulted ceiling and comfy sofas, a snug with a cozy fire perfect to relax in front of with a glass of wine, a fantastic courtyard garden with seating areas, as well as my large double bedroom with a barrel ceiling and en suit facilities (there are three large double bedrooms in total). Also there’s a separate bathroom with a deep bath and unlimited hot water. Perfect for the cooler weather in Puglia in January. Furnishings are what I would describe as “chic Italian” - luxurious with an authentic 1950s Italian feeling. Uncluttered but not minimalist, comfortable but not fussy. Very unique in my experience. The icing on the cake was the staff. I drove from Brindisi airport and was met at Nardo town hall and guided to the Palazzo, which is situated in the old town, where the staff had reserved me a parking space. I was also shown where the main square was (less than 5 minutes walk away) and the local cafes and shops. Perfect! I was then shown around the property and any questions I had answered. After a great nights’ sleep in the comfortable bed, breakfast was served in the morning - proper Italian coffee and pastries, local bread and jams, freshly squeezed juice, fruit and yogurt. I look forward to returning to Palazzo Cairney in the summer, especially as the coast with beaches and swimming is 10 minutes drive away.”
