“Location is very convenient, close to Nagano Station and right beside a convenience store. Interior looks a little bit retro, but it's clean and well maintained, so it becomes a nice touch instead of being sketchy/ dingy-looking. Public bath for women is awesome -- plenty of shampoo/ conditioner options, sauna room, and medium-sized hot and cold bath tub, fit up to 3-6 people. There's a manga library and free amenities across the receptionist. Our receptionists doesn't speak english very well, but she tried so hard, and we really appreciate the effort.”

“This accomodation was fantastic! The staff could not have been more friendly and helpful, although very little English was spoken we did not find this an issue. The room was clean and beautifully decorated in the traditional Ryokan style. We choose the half board option which was great value for all the delicious food that is included for breakfast and dinner. A great little Ryokan in a beautiful city!”

A 5-minute walk from Zenko-ji Temple, Japanese-style inn Chuokan Shimizuya Ryokan stands with a history of over 160 years. It features a public bath, massages and free Wi-Fi.
“It's a lovely old house with a sweet old couple running it. They speak a little English, but mostly speak Japanese to you, but we got the general idea. Traditional Japanese breakfast (multi course fish-rice-egg-vegetables). The restrooms and showers are shared (separated by gender), but we didn't mind. The baths are onsen style, and super hot. The location is great (either 20 by foot from the JR station, or a few minutes by bus. A 5 minutes walk from the main temple, and a few minutes walk from Gondo where they have restaurants that are opened throughout the day). All in all it was a great authentic experience, and I slept like a baby on the tatami-futon bed. Be aware of the 11PM curfew.”

Everything is provided in the kitchen from cooktop to free coffee and tea to chopsticks to condiments like soy and sesame oil. Comfy bed that doesn't squeak when you're on the top. Super clean and the owner is the nicest bloke I've met in Japan. Greets you with a smile and goes above and beyond for his clients. Thanks AUN I highly recommend and I will be staying again!”

“The size our room was excellent with tatami mats and a seating area with normal sized seats (not low down). Dinner was in another tatami room private just for us. The food was amazing with many dishes and hot food being brought just when we thought we had got everything. Didn't recognise all the food so the young lady bringing it (dressed in her kimono) had written down in English on a nice menu paper what everything was. She spoke good English. The futons were great.”
