It was great! They recommend taking the bus, but we walked with our big suitcases from Nagano Station and it was only 17-20mins on main street!

This is the place to stay in Nagano! Orie has curated a staff that are knowledgeable, welcoming, and so so very kind. We have nothing but good things to say about our stay here. If you’re in Nagano, I couldn’t recommend this place enough! If they offer a breakfast (it was a holiday so they were offering a breakfast sando) definitely get one! This is probably going to be the highlight of our trip ❤️

1166 Backpackers is the place where you feel at home even if you are on the other side of the planet. Nice common area with a lot of space, free tea and coffee. The staff is also super nice.

The staff were super friendly and very helpful with making plans. They had the relevant bus schedules, itineraries etc. I and another traveler also got to join in on a gyoza (birthday) party between the staff, very fun!

Only one shower but there is a booking system you can use in busier times and it worked fine for when we were there.

Staff were really friendly and helpful, even bringing us hot water bottles for the cold nights! The room was basic but comfy for our stay and the bedding kept you really warm.

There's nothing that I can really think of that I didn't like. I was hesitant to book a stay here originally due to the overwhelmingly positive reviews and cheap price (I was worried that they might be fake) but it really is just that good here 😁

Easily the best hostel I've stayed in, all of the staff are incredibly friendly and great to chat to. They speak very good English and seem very motivated to learn more. It was a very safe environment so despite not having main lockers I was not concerned about my belongings at all. they do have smaller lockers for valuables which I didn't end up using but they should fit an average size laptop + other things easily. The staff recommended some very good places to visit and they have lots of booklets and folders with very useful information on surrounding areas, restaurants and activities. It made my outings a lot easier to plan so I was very grateful for that. There was only one shower and 2 toilets ( one western one squat) but I was never waiting for either , they have a sheet on the door of the shower where you can reserve a time in either the evening or morning but it is no required. Whilst I was there they organised a breakfast potluck which was very fun to take part in. I made a lot of friends here and I feel like it was a turning point in my trip for sure. I cannot recommend this place enough. Beds were also incredibly comfy. I will definitely be coming back again!

We had a fantastic time at 1166 Backpacker. - Location: It is perfectly located to explore the city (the famous Zenkoji Temple is a 5-minute walk away) and is also a 20-minute walk from the train station. - This is a traditional Japanese house with futon beds, super comfy, we had our best sleep in Japan there. - The team was super kind and friendly, and we enjoyed chatting with them. Merci Etsuko, c'était un plaisir de parler avec toi :)

All staff members were very lovely and always made us feel at home. It was a wonderful experience chatting with others and all facilities were clean. The free tea was delicious and the hot water bottles at night were fantastic. Also the location was very good and close to the temple.

The staff made the stay. They were so open and friendly, often went out of their way to make us feel welcome and comfortable. Location was very good. When we arrived I was worried about being cold, but the heater and duvets provided kept us very warm!

Hallways, bathrooms, and shower room were a little cramped for a tall (and a little wide, haha) American. Ceiling in the entry hall is a little low.

A short walk away from the train station and the temple. Staff were super welcoming and eager to suggest restaurants, attractions, and tips for travelling around Nagano and the nearby attractions.

Property is awesome. Very traditional setting and has all the amenities one could need. Fun social area when you walk in, quiet workspace, washrooms, laundry room and the sleeping accommodations are well set up.
