“Cortina Apartments and the wonderful Jason are simply incredible. If you're lucky enough to grab a room while they have a vacancy, book it ASAP. I was hesitant at first to book because we were trying to go "affordable". But after just the first night Isaw that We were actually getting MUCH MORE than we paid for. About Cortina Apartments: The whole building was extremely clean and beautifully decorated. It is 100% ski in ski out and made for those who want first turns on the deep Cortina powder. There was a basic (but quite delicious) stock of breakfast foods in the kitchenette that would magically refill itself each day and the very comfortable couch with netflix made for comfortable apres ski while waiting to go to the onsen next door. About Jason: Jason made himself available not just for pickup, meals into town, ski rental pickups, dropoffs, random grocery shopping and MANY MANY other things that I can only begin to list. He also provided us with GREAT deals on lift tickets and insider info. When I mentioned offhand that my bootlaces were broken in the car, he offered to get me a pair and magically they were on the kitchen counter the next day when we got off the slopes. PHENOMENAL service and just a great person overall. I consider myself on the "too damn picky" side when it comes to hotels but Cortina has totally surpassed my expectations.”

“We can't thank Yuna and Curtis enough for the wonderful way they took care of us. They went "over and above" what was expected. They helped us to retrieve a bag we had left on a public bus and also drive us out of a snowstorm so that we could catch our plane on time. They were always on hand to help with advice regarding restaurants, shops, ski lift passes, transport, local attractions, laundry etc. The building is a bit old and tired but the views over the ski fields were fantastic. Any shortcomings in the building were more than made up for with fantastic service. We were warm, well fed and had everything we needed. Being right next to the ski lifts was great and being able to rent skis and boarding equipment at the entry to the hotel was also very convenient. We enjoyed the onsen too. We spent one day in Happo but were keen to return to Tsugaike-Kogen... less crowds, less Australians, a much better experience of a Japanese ski village... We were very sad to leave.”

“We had the pleasure of staying at Petit Hotel Schanze for one month and it became a home away from home. Toshiko and Tetsuya are incredibly generous and accommodating hosts. They went out of their way to make us feel welcome and to help us throughout our stay. The rooms were comfortable and warm and there was a communal Japanese-style bath which was very relaxing after a long day of snowboarding. Tetsuya's cooking was amazing. We had breakfast included and really looked forward to it each morning. The meals were wholesome and fresh and made from locally-sourced, organic ingredients. We had a mixture of Western and Japanese breakfasts and got a chance to experience some flavours that were new to us. Toshiko baked fresh bread on the days we had a Western-style breakfast and it was delicious. There was always more than enough to eat and having a healthy meal each morning really set us up for each day. Tsugaike was a nice change from the crowded and tourist-heavy Happo-one. Although there weren't as many shops and restaurants as you'd find at Happo, we'd highly recommend Tsugaike if you're looking for a quiet, local mountain with better snow. Schanze is a short walk from the nearest bus stop which has buses going in either direction, so it's quite easy to get around and explore different areas. Overall we had a great time and hope we can stay again one day.”
