You could also hire a boat for the day or take the small ferry across to Teignmouth’s hidden gem, Shaldon Beach. It’s just a stroll from Quay Cottage into Teignmouth – a lovely quaint old seaside town, which boasts a beautiful long promenade and pier. The seafront also has a children’s play area, a skate park, a miniature golf course and a heated lido. The trendy art quarter is well worth a visit for a treasure trove of independent shops, galleries, cafes, restaurants and pubs. Try the New Quay Inn, a lovely old pub that offers live music on Saturday nights and a spacious outside area if you’re with kids. Teignmouth is also the gateway to a host of activities and places to explore for all ages. Sat on the edge of Dartmoor National Park, a wealth of hiking and exploration opportunities await. Pull on your hiking boots to adventure over moorland, or try Haldon Forest Park for natural cycling. Situated just outside Exeter, the trails give beautiful views back across the city and the surrounding countryside.
