Company information

Steve & I are both outdoor enthusiasts and can wax lyrical about the wonders of Sticklepath and Dartmoor. I worked as a teacher before setting up Tawburn and together with Paddy the dog I take care of front of house. Steve was a corporate banker but comes from a family of hoteliers and guest house owners and revels in his lifelong passion of cooking. You won't go hungry. We want you to have the best possible stay and will do everything possible to make sure you leave with great memories.

Property information

Opening in July 2020 Steve, Becky and Paddy the Dog welcome you in to their newly renovated Dartmoor home. Ideally located just 200 metres from two long distance trails, the Tarka Trail and the Dartmoor Way, makes Tawburn an ideal location for people looking to explore Dartmoor. To compliment the B & B guests also have use of outdoor hot tub and sauna facilities, situated in a contemporary garden setting, during the early evening. The guest rooms, which are all located on the first floor accessed by stairs, can be configured to accommodate single or double beds as required. All rooms have en-suite facilities, smart TV's, Wi-Fi, Duck Island toiletries and a snack tray. In addition to the bedrooms with en-suite shower facilities there is a separate lounge for guests, the garden area with spa facilities, a luxury bathroom area with standalone bath and walk in shower, and a downstairs shower facility for muddy paws. We are doing our part to help our guests stay safe as a result of Covid 19. We have updated our cleaning regime in accordance with new recommendations. We offer staggered breakfast times and can provide self check in on arrival.

Neighbourhood information

Steve is happy to recommend walks or cycle rides for all abilities and will also provide guided walking or cycling activities, if required. Sticklepath has two traditional thatched pubs which will provide a welcome retreat after a hard day on the Moor and come very well recommended. You can drink a pint of local Dartmoor ale or a glass of wine whilst waiting for your home-made supper. There is also a village shop selling a range of goods including local produce. Sticklepath is also home to Finch Foundry, which is owned by the National Trust, and is the last working water powered forge in England. The town of Okehampton is 4 miles away with all the amenities you would expect of a market town including 3 supermarkets. In terms of accessibility Tawburn is located less than 5 minutes from the A30 and the Cathedral City of Exeter is 20 miles distant for anyone looking for that city and country balance. We are also only 45 minutes from both the north and south coasts so in an ideal spot to enjoy many of the attractions that Devon and Cornwall have to offer.
