A 6ishiki, we value time to sense oneself. In the quiet, stately air in this 100-year-old house, the mind naturally comes to a rest, allowing the awareness to turn inward. The private sauna provides an indescribable sense of comfort, where mind and body are liberated in a space that is yours and yours only. We hope that everyone who visits will experience a special time to recollect their own selves that are dispersed in daily life. 6ishiki's most distinctive feature is a private sauna built entirely of hinoki cypress. This Finnish-style sauna allows you to set the temperature and to produce scented steam with essential oils of your liking. The cold bath uses mineral-rich groundwater from a well. Look up at the sky in a space that is exclusively yours and relax in the open, breathing in the air with your whole body. The scent of the hinoki cypress, the quietude of the nights and early mornings—there is an indescribable sense of release that only a space so private can provide.
6ishiki is a hotel in a 100-year-old house left behind by the great-grandfather of the owner, artist Eikoh Tanaka, who was born in the same house. The hotel also has an attached café displaying artwork. The hotel began as the artist’s social practice project centered around art and other creative programs. With more members joining the project, 6ishiki aims to become a place that creates new value as a platform for regional development by engaging with the local community on an ongoing basis.
Kameoka City in Kyoto Prefecture, also known as the City of Fog, is an idyllic basin surrounded all around by beautiful mountain ranges. 6ishiki, a 100-year-old renovated traditional Japanese style house, is a rental-villa style hotel opened in 2022.
