Yellowwood Cottage is your friendly, comfortable home from home in the heart of tranquil Himeville. Set in beautiful gardens, Yellowwood Cottage is a perfect base to relax while you explore the beauty of this unique part of the Southern Drakensberg including Sani Pass. The large rooms are ensuite, each with their own entrance, TV and tea/ coffee stations, with self-catering facilities available. The rooms open onto a patio and beautiful garden. Heating and electric blankets ease the cold during the mountain winters. The cottage has a cosy lounge, with a log fireplace, and dining room facility with its own fully kitted kitchen which includes a large fridge/ freezer. We offer scrumptious home cooking with a full English or Continental breakfast available for guests. Meals can be served either in the dining area or outdoors under the trees. There are bbq facilities and delicious lunch, dinner, packed breakfasts and picnic hampers are also available on request. 2.5 hours from Durban, 5 hours from Johannesburg on tarred roads. Come and enjoy hiking, fishing, walking, canoeing, shopping, craft, art, golf, biding, tubing, picnics, photography, fine dining and good coffee.
Your hosts Derryl and Elsa live on the property and are available at all times to ensure your stay is as happy and comfortable as possible. Their knowledge of the area is extensive and can put you in touch with the relevant contacts.
Himeville is a sleepy village with a unique character and charm. Stroll around the village, enjoy the historic buildings and visit the museum, voted one of the best rural museums in South Africa, or head a little way out and enjoy all the natural beauty and activities that make the Southern Drakensberg the exciting destination that it is. Nearby Activities include: •Trips up the Sani Pass with its' dramatic scenery and the highest pub in Africa at 2872 metres (passports needed). The Pass has recently been tarred a lot of the way, making it accessible to 2x4 vehicles •Hiking trails •Caves with San Rock paintings. •Birding - One of the worlds' greatest birding spots, high altitude specials include Bearded Vulture (Lammergeier), Cape Vulture, Drakensberg Rock Jumper, Ground Woodpecker and many more. •Mountain biking, quad biking, fishing, tubing and river rafting. Equipment can all be hired locally. •Three golf courses in the area •Upmarket restaurants, coffee shops, delis, farm stalls and boutique shopping which include local art, crafts, curios and clothing. •Kenmo Lake with two dams, birding, and picnic spots.
