A traditional East Sussex inn in the South Downs, Ye Olde Smugglers Inne dates back to the 14th century and retains plenty of its original character. A cosy fireside bar and restaurant complement the bespoke rooms, which all benefit from free Wi-Fi.

I booked the Smugglers Inne on line, so I didn't know what to expect. We were pleasantly surprised that it was a quaint room upstairs from a lovely pub. Most importantly, the staff were wonderful, exceptionally flexible.

Located in Eastbourne and with Eastbourne Beach reachable within 2.6 km, The Lamb Inn provides a bar, non-smoking rooms, free WiFi and a tennis court. Built in 12th century, this 4-star inn is within 2.2 km of Eastbourne Pier and 5.6 km of Eastbourne Miniature Steam Railway Adventure Park. Glyndebourne Opera House is 22 km away and Brighton Marina is 31 km from the inn.

The location was great, not far from the town centre but situated in an area steeped in local history. The building itself is everything and more from a structure of this age, bags of character, pitch black timber beams, mottle and daub walls and a period 'walk in' fireplace. We had booked a family room which was in fact a self contained arrangement of 2 separate rooms, a small landing area with tea and coffee making facilities and two armchairs. Both rooms were decorated with interesting period prints and paintings. Towels were ample in quantity and very soft. The beer was well kept (Harvey's Best Bitter), the atmosphere in the bar very inviting and calm. The bar staff - friendly and efficient. The breakfast was superb and with generous portions. The owner served us and was most friendly and considerate.

Situated in the heart of Hailsham, The Crown Hotel offers a vibrant cafe, traditional bar and modern bedrooms, and is only a 20-minute drive from Eastbourne.

The Crown Hotel cafe serves a modern bistro menu, light snacks and breakfasts whilst the lively bar offers a fine selection of real ales and wines.

The room was spacious, clean and well equipped. The staff were very accommodating, friendly and looked after me with a smile and great attitude.

Perfect for rustic breaks in the countryside, an Inn is a small property with basic hotel services and typically traditional decor. Inns are fully licensed and have a bar providing food and drinks in the evening, which distinguishes them from country or guest houses.

Loved the old feel of the pub and room, dinner was excellent and very well cooked and prepared, breakfast was good and just as described, location was superb right in the middle of the village which was so pretty. Whole vibe of the stay was very relaxed and not too formal which we very much liked. The bar had a great selection of beers

This was recommended by the friend I went with and it didn't disappoint. A lovely country house hotel. Comfortable with a high level of service and accommodation but very friendly and inviting. We had dinner there on our second night and the manager of the restaurant was extremely helpful and knowledgeable. I will definitely return.

Location is excellent: on the footpath with great access to walks. Close to Rathfinny vineyard. Sharon (host) was wonderful - wine, tea, coffee, milk (and condiments) provided. Sharon was really friendly and even gave us a lift for our night out and collected us at 10 pm.

Four poster bed was a dream and the bath was a welcome surprise. Gorgeous location and staff were friendly and accommodating. They were really dog friendly and being able to have dinner in the pub made our stay super easy. Very spacious rooms with tonnes of character, you real feel like you’ve stepped into another world.

Beautiful hotel with great facilities in a stunning location! Everyone is really friendly and accommodating, the food is excellent (especially the roast dinner!) and the rooms are good quality. If you like old architecture, beautiful scenery and walking, it’s the perfect place to visit!! Was having so much fun that we spontaneously extended our stay.

This was our second stay in the cosy double at Rathfinny Wine Estate. The room is cosy, but perfect for a nights stay. We woke up to a foggy vineyard, which was quite beautiful!

The Olde Smugglers Inne was first class. The hosts were very welcoming. I could not fault the place. It was a brilliant place to recover and rest after a days walking over the Seven Sisters and Alfriston forest

Our second stay at this beautiful property … location, ambiance, food and service are all second to none! We enjoyed a great tour with Maxine - and despite it being our second visit, got to see other parts of the wine process that we didn’t see in the summer and learn a little more about Rathfinny wines … everyone on the Rathfinny team are always so welcoming and enthusiastic!

Flint Barns are in a lovely, quiet spot with beautiful surroundings. Its incredibly peaceful. The room we had was small - in a positive, cosy, way with cleverly thought through amenities and smart use of space. The team working there are incredibly warm and helpful. We stayed at the property for one night and enjoyed a lovely meal, accompanied by a bottle of the superb Rathfinny Blanc de Noirs.
