How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

water in the shower was sometimes difficult to adjust, changed from boiling to cold; no sofas indoors (in the cold weather would be nice to have some comfortable common areas inside). the 2 small sofas were constantly used by the 3 dogs.
súper friendly owner and staff, great ambiance, lovely outside courtyard, breakfast offered eggs (nice change). plenty of blankets in the room to keep warm. Pretty central, close to market, some shops and cafés/restaurants; nice family atmosphere

A super cool hostel in the beautiful little town Tilcara, nice design, two super friendly dogs and a nice terrace to hang around. We were off season, so it was quite and we had a room for ourselves. Bathroom clean and nicely decorated. Angel (staff) was super friendly and very helpful!!

we had a wonderful time at Tilcara hostel. Carolina, Nico and Camilo (and their dogs) are a very cute family and they make you feel right at home. the breakfast was very complete for Argentinan standards and the hostel is located very well in the center of Tilcara. Thanks a lot Carolina!!

Bed wasn't very comfortable.
Owners were really nice and helpful. Breakfast was one of the best we had- eggs,fruits,bread spreads, hot and cold drinks. Large room, the shared bathroom and shower was clean and well designed.

Not much space to store bags in the dorms
Very comfortable, clean hostel with lots of charm. The staff was very friendly and the breakfast delicious!

Facilities were very basic and there were only 2 bathrooms to share amongst all the guests. Breakfast could also be improved.
Great location only a few minutes walk from the main shops and restaurants in Tilcara. Everyone at the hostel was very friendly and welcoming. They were also flexible and accommodating with our requests.

The Hostel is well based close to Main Square and 5 minutes walk from the Bus Main Station! The stuff is super great friendly and helpful in everything we needed! And made us feel like home! The Breakfast is out of the blue! We will definetly back to Tilcara Hostel!

not that social experience, but that’s always depending on language skills and time you spend there. the dogs were really annoying at EVERY night.. started fighting and barking with each other or neighbouring dogs. when the owners were coming home they got really loud as well. as windows opening to the patio aisle, it was directly next to us
really good breakfast, nice staff. small but sweet place.

The floor and surfaces in the room were covered in dust and dirt. Seemed everyone was a volunteer or the owner.

Wifi is hit or miss in the rooms (common area okay). Some rooms are loud as the common area is heavily used by staff/volunteers until quiet hours of 11:30pm (during my 3 nights)

The room smelt musty and kind of like mould. The smaller bathroom of the two was very hard to shower in, the shower head wouldn’t stream water and when it did oscillated between cold and scalding hot. The shower also had difficulty draining for a long time
The location is about two streets back from the Main Street

Not as clean as I would expect eg the shower curtain had stains on it and we found hair in the bed

Rates in Tilcara are excessive. The hostel room charge was a lot higher than the cost of a room in a fair two-star hotel in Salta.
Very friendly and helpful staff. Good breakfast and a possibility to use the kitchen refrigerator.
