No air conditioning. We knew there wasn’t an A/C, but had not foreseen the hot weather we encountered in Austria. Nevertheless we were able to get some sleep with the door/window open.

The door of the bathroom was flimsy and did not isolate noise very good.

A good B&B at the Hallstatt lake with a nice view from the balcony. The boat to Hallstatt runs just beside the building so you are spared the hassle of finding parking for your car when visiting Hallstatt.

Beds are not that comfy -pretty soft (but it depends on preferences). Limited options for dining in the area.

the walls isolation were bad. every noise in the main hall woke us up.

the manager of the hotel was very helpful. we got good tips on taking a taxi to Hallstatt instead of renting bikes. it was really the best choice & cheaper also than driving our own car.

The proprietor clearly thinks guests are getting an email w self check in instructions and Booking.com noted that we would. I booked day of, specifically because it had self checkin. I booked five or more hours before we arrived but received no email with instructions. When we arrived another party (who also used Booking.com) had the same problem. I was able to call the proprietor who talked me through getting the keys for me and the other party but he was extremely rude. He started by scolding us for not being there before 8, then said we received an email w instructions. After getting the keys (and another phone call to help the other party), I tried to explain that while he thought we received an email, there must be a process issue because neither of us did. He continued to raise his voice, told me “this call is over”, and hung up on me. He should not be in the hospitality industry.

I am really surprised by the people who have praised this hotel's food and accommodation as extraordinary. They probably have only experienced camping so far and don't know what it means to stay in a quality hotel. The hotel only had two staff members, a lady and a gentleman who played the role of manager there. During our 4-day stay, they didn't even crack a smile. The breakfast was very simple and lacked variety. The only drink available was a coffee machine where you had to do everything yourself. At 8AM in the morning, the housekeeper would wake us up with noise of vacuum cleaner machine by sweeping the corridors or nearby rooms; the sound easily penetrated, and there was no sound insulation. There were no hotel servants; you had to check in yourself and carry your luggage to your room. There was no elevator. The rooms were very small, and the bathroom, shower, and toilet were all in 3 square meter, making it impossible to comfortably wash your face in the morning. There were no hooks for towels, so you had to lay them on the bed. Overall, it was one of our worst hotel experiences.

You have to pay for everything, even simple and basic things.. there is no kettle in the room and when I asked for boiled water (300 ml of hot water) to cook special food for my daughter, women in restaurant asked to pay for it… I was negatively surprised because of it and decided not to have breakfast also in this hotel.. there are a lot of other hotels with better food variety, affordable price and view . So we had breakfast in other hotel..

The check in process was a little confusing. I had to call several times to direct me the correct passcod to get the room key. It would be better if we could do text message in the future.
