Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

This place is amazing! A throwback to a different era. Liver like an earl, but with a great shower head and hot water, super comfy bed and a wood-burning fireplace right in our room. Great food and wine. The staff were super friendly…taking pride in their space and the work at the castle.

AustraliaIt's a little off the beaten track (remote). Whilst it didn't bother us, just beware if you have large suitcases that the stairway (tight spiral) might be difficult with larger luggage items. We had carry on size, so no great issue and honestly what would you expect in an old castle.
It's a castle!!! Seriously awesome. No in all seriousness, the owners have done a great job renovating this gem. Our room was massive, not sure if we were upgraded but there was space to sleep 10 in our suite. A full bathroom with extra toilet was great with kids. The food was brilliant and the service was excellent. The English of the staff wasn't great but with their little bit of English and my little bit of German we managed. The castle tour was great and they had an English information sheet which was helpful.

AustriaWe have long dreamed of staying overnight at the castle. That was great. it is a stunning view from the terraces to the nearby villages. There were very tasty dishes in the taverna. The breakfast is also very good. We did not take a pet this time, but you will be welcome with him here.

AustriaI am super excited about this place. The stuff gave us a better (Ritterzimmer) room with no extra costs as it was free at the moment. The hotel, room, corridor and -- last but not least-- people working there are amazing. Our daughter could imagine herself a princess and she found a few more princesses to play together. My high recommendations and thanks!

SwitzerlandFor about 50 rooms there's only one hair dryer which you have to reserve in advance. The stuff was very kind to arrange the hair dryer despite 6 another guest who needed it as well.
The castle seems to have1000 doors ,rooms and hidden passages. Staying in Burg Plankenstein is a journey in time. No room is alike, interior is a mix and match from English Flee Market and Renaissance furnishings. Around the castle enough green grounds, Roman path etc. Staying in the castle gives you an idea what was a daily life xxx years ago. What's more you will be very glad having modern, clean bathrooms and Toilet with running water

United StatesWas locked out at 9:50 PM. No staff. Exterior heavy door locked tight. No exterior lights were on. Took 5 minutes to find the secret "SECONDARY" door. It made the stay more fun, so we ended up liking it. But it would have been best if we were told about coming home after dark.
Atmosphere, ambiance, breakfast, creaking floors, heavy doors, quiet 4' thick walls, secret rooms to discover and explore.

United KingdomRoom accessible only via narrow stairs, kind of challenging with luggage. But this is a castle after all, not designed for travellers, you may expect this. Some essential comforts missing : in our room neither shutters, nor blinders, nor curtains, the morning sun shines right in. The decor is acquired taste, kind of secessionist notes, but truly, rather eclectic.
Castle feeling with dark corners, wooden floors, authentic doors. Good bathroom. Quick check in and out. And good food at reasonable price right there. A place with unique features, not a 4 or 5 star elegance but hard not to remember.

AustriaRoom was a little dark, but then, this was hthe way medieval castles were built... Careful with the climbing routes, when we were there they were in very bad condition (crumbling rock, routes hard to find and tell apart). Check-in was a little delayed and chaotic, but staff were very friendly. Spural staircases are quaint but NOT barrier free, of course.
The mystical garden, the modern, newly refurbished bathroom in a room that looked close to the medieval original, the breakfast. Excellent hot shower even late at night & in the topmost tower room. Freedom to explore the castle and grounds responsibly even after dark.
