Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.

United StatesTiny, cramped parking lot on a busy street making it hard to get in and out. The hostess was not very friendly and her instructions to enter the building were not very clear, and frankly insulting. The preliminary information did not inform me that all payments must be in cash. Only a small, laminated sign in the room itself stated the cash only policy, and it was in German on the side showing, with the English translation on the underside. It didn't occur to me to turn it over. We arrived tired after a long day and just dropped into bed and went to sleep. When I went to check out the next morning, the hostess shrieked that I must pay in cash and when I left to find an ATM to get the cash, she held my sister as hostage. Altogether, not the most pleasant experience.
The room was adequate and clean. Very small space, but had the bare necessities.

GermanyThe hotel could provide shower gel / shampoo for the guests. Some of yhd rooms face to the street, which is quite busy, not a problem if keeping the windows closed while sleeping.
The balcony had a beautiful view. The room was correct, everything worked properly and was clean. It was not mentioned in the description, but our room had a small fridge which was useful. The village is cute, with nice mountain views and some attractions (Waterfall, castle), it is half an hour drive away from Berchtesgaden Nationalpark in Germany and the Eisriesenwelt in Austria, good location!

There was nothing to dislike. The room was standard layout but with a balcony. The bed and linen were good. The wifi and shower worked well. Reception was efficient. The guest house is within easy walking of the Aqua Salza spa. The motorway exit leads almost directly to the guest house but the street is quiet. Good value.

US Virgin IslandsThe room sadly smelled of smoke. An ashtray filled with butts was on the porch, and while the room is "non-smoking", the porch is not. One can only assume that smokers leave their doors open or cracked or the smoke isn't gone before they open the porch door to go inside, that causes the smell. Additionally, they probably don't leave their clothes outside either, which contributes to the scent in the room also. The hostess' curt manner wasn't very hospitable and the cash/credit card issue could be confusing as the sign in the room states "cash only" and yet the booking.com contract clearly states Visa/MC accepted, which the hostess then politely accepted with no issue.
The quiet room was faced away from the street, at the rear of the property, with a lovely view. The bedding was very comfortable, the facility very clean and a quick walk over to the thermal bath. On-site free parking.
