Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Just beautiful, lovely setting, beautiful view of the mountains, easy public transport into and from city center very safe and quite comfortable. Isabella was kind enough to extend my stay one more day, which was great! Everywhere else was booked and expensive.

NetherlandsIt is located on a beautiful property with a spacious yard, big garden and amazing views. It had free parking , an option to eat breakfast and excellent service from the owner. The room was big with a balcony and decorated in Austrian style. It is a little further out from the center of Salzburg but bus 22 stops super close to the hotel and takes you straight to Old Town in 20 minutes.

PolandThe price was rather high, but hotels in Salzburg in August (Salzburger Festspiele time) are very expensive and despite this the Steinerhof is one of the cheapest.
Quite place to stay in the "green"' Salzburg part, with convinient bus transport to the centre of Salzburg. The hostess Isabell and her mother were very polite and nice. The breakfast was very rich and varied.

SwitzerlandWe have already had a bad feeling about the staff, before departing. It seemed like, from the messages they'd sent us, that they wanted to "punish" us with a worse room because we didn't choose to have breakfast at the property. Maybe it was not like that, but it appeared so from the tone of the messages. In two days, we haven't seen anybody at the property to welcome us, which in this case was probably good. But on the other hand it created a big problem. On the last day, we left early. We thought, we had already paid in advance, as it is now usually the case with Booking.com. We immediately got a message from the property, that we left without paying, and if we didn't pay quickly, they would report us to the authorities. In the end, we managed with some difficulties to pay for the two nights, but the owners were really disrespectfull, as if we were thieves. Such disrispectfull behaviour for 200 Euros would never happen in Switzerland. It seemed like the owners would starve to death if we didn't pay them right away...They have a lot to learn if they want to continue this activity sustainably.
Very nice property in typical austrian style, inside and outside, with a little lake and even some deers in the surroundings. Very much idillic.

United StatesIt smelled strongly of cow poop all day, almost intolerably so. But that’s what you get in the countryside of Salzburg! Also, no gluten free options at breakfast and we didn’t see the host once during the stay.
The location is beautiful and the guest house is traditional. So fun/quaint/picturesque. Right next to bus stops.

United StatesWe had a little trouble finding it at first but only because we could not use GPS. Would not be a problem for most! We walked a lot this trip so the walk to the bus stop was no problem, but if you have trouble getting around that may be something to consider.
Staff was very nice and helpful. Room was sweet and cute and we were given some Austrian chocolates. There are deer in the backyard!! It’s a beautiful little bed and breakfast on a lovely farm.

United KingdomWe found the shower cubicle rather small and felt the bathroom was a little dated, but nice hot water.
Fantastic breakfast. Everything we could have wanted. Location a little out of town, but buses worked out well, especially with the Salzburg card and lovely to have mountain views. We were in the centre in 15 minutes. Lovely balcony and thoughtful to have a clothes airer on the balcony for drying our clothes and an ironing board provided on request.

GermanyNothing to complain about.
The hosts were extremely friendly and welcoming, making us feel right 'at home'. The breakfast was delicious and fresh, the breakfast room was very cozy. The location was great: it felt like being in the countryside, but it was only a 15 minute ride by bus (bus stop right near the hotel) to downtown Salzburg. Perfect!

GermanyMattress could have been more comfortable; pillows were a bit too soft for our liking; and the road to the Gasthaus was not well lit and got a bit scary to walk through at nights.

GermanyEverything was great. It is more a suggestion: considering that it is far from supermarkets it would be good to offer water, bier, chocolate and this kind of stuff.
Amazing view, friendly staff, big and cosy bedroom. Although a bit far from the city center, there is a bus that you can get to reach there close to the property.

United StatesBreakfast was cancelled due to the Covid restrictions and that was disappointing. The weather was so pleasant so we had our windows open the majority of the time, but unfortunately there were a lot of mosquitos in our room.
This guesthouse was so beautiful! The grounds were covered with beautiful flowers and the handcrafted woodwork on the inside was traditional making the stay feel very authentic and special. Also we stayed in three different hotels/ guesthouses during our vacation and this place had the most comfortable bed and pillows (down filled)! I was very impressed. Lastly, there were some unique (unique to us as we're from America) animals including Alpine deer that you could see grazing in the early morning.

United StatesWe were hoping it was a little closer to downtown Salzburg. The drive into the city wasn’t bad at all, but we were expecting it to be closer.
This was so charming and quaint! Great little bed and breakfast. The room was very comfortable and clean, and had everything we needed. The private balcony was a plus too! If you’re looking for a quieter place outside of Salzburg, this is perfect. It’s a short 15-20 minute drive into the city. The family that owns the house was very nice and welcoming too!

GermanyBreakfast could be varied. Because if you stay for several days, it's boring to eat the same food.
The breakfast was good, but the same every day. My suggestion would be to be buffet style and everyone to choose what they want. I honestly expected traditional homemade products, but they weren't, although it smelled like apple pie when we got there. The beds were very comfortable. It was very quiet and the view was wonderful, the room had a huge balcony. The location of the pension is close to the bus station and you can quickly reach the city center by bus 21. We bought the Salzburg card and had a lot of advantages (free access to public transport and most tourist attractions). I recommend this location.
