Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

SwedenThe only downside is that the property is located a little bit far from the Salzburg city center. If you, like me, came to see the sites in Salzburg, then you will need to plan some transit time to see them. It takes about 1 hour walking or about 30-45 min walking and the bus (the walk to the nearest bus station is about 20 min). Moreover, the trip back to the hotel involves walking up a long hill, so plan to get extra tired after a day out.
Hotel-Gasthof Maria Plain has very nice rooms in the suburb north of Salzburg. The room itself was luxurious and the breakfast was delicious. The staff was also very helpful with my late check-in. The view from the property is one-of-a-kind.

IrelandThere are parts in the toilet that looks dirty and smells funny. The bugs, i tried opening my window when i got there and a bug immediately went in my room, so i just kept it closed. The location is not very accessible by public transportation. If you take the bus, you will have to walk for about 20 minutes, very much uphill, with not much people around. So if you are going back at night, it's not very convenient.
The reason I booked this place is because of the overlooking view of the city with the mountains, which is amazing! The rooms doesn't have this view, so just go outside for this. The room is spacious, with a couch and a table, there's even an extension cord available. I told them that I will be leaving early on my checkout and they gave me a more efficient option for me to leave.

LatviaIt was the most rude and unwelcoming receptionist we have ever had. They claim they are very pet friendly, but when we arrived with a dog (which we said in advance), receptionist started cursing in german. Then he gave us old and filthy room. It looked like a torture chamber from WW1. I am half joking, since the curtains really looked like someones brains got blown out here or maybe it was just someone wiping their bottom as we had no toilet paper. They even charged us a pet cleaning fee (which normally is totally fine). My wife was furious, but we just left it.
Breakfast was alright.

AustriaI was late on the second day and 30min before breakfast end most of the food was gone. Almost no more fruit except some mouldy raspberries. Mattress extremely soft, I had to remove the topper to get a good sleep. Noise isolation is not good, but I did not mind. Dinner was so-so, I expected it to be much better, given all the falstaff labels, etc.
When you're early, then breakfast is great. I liked that there are options for vegetarians/vegans like soy yoghurt, etc. Room was OK, a bit dated, but fine. Very nice and comfy chairs.

CanadaWhat is not to like about this place??
This is a magnificent property, set in an Alpine meadow overlooking little Salzburg, yet only a 5 minute( max) drive to the “ City Center”. Absolutely jaw dropping view, but the hotel itself, the huge rooms and bathrooms, lovely outdoors terrace and indoor restaurant, delicious dinner and breakfast but the staff were exceptional - Jasmine very welcoming and sweet.
