The hotel is a little dated, which usually wouldn’t be something I’d complain about, but this was most noticeable in the bed linens: they had obvious signs of wear and were uncomfortable.

Our room was very large, quiet despite being on the second floor overlooking the street, and the wifi was very fast. The staff were very kind. Good location if you want to be near the city center, but a little far from the train station (felt it while hauling luggage!) and the historical center. That stated, the street leading to the historic center is charming.

There are a number of hotels closer to the "action" toward the city center but it was good for getting your steps in, if you know what I mean.

The Goldenes is a solid 3-star stay. The facility is crisp and clean and the staff is absolutely wonderful. The breakfast is a solid offering with all the usual and tasty selections of yogurts, grains, cold cuts, cheese, breads, eggs, and speck. Nice that they have a comfy little bar in the lobby for a quick cocktail or glass of wine just down the hall from your room.

The bathroom in our room smelled very bad for our entire stay from the moment we checked in. The cleaning service did not do much when they cleaned our room. There's no Do Not Disturb sign to put on the door and it's an older hotel in general so there's no digital key card, you get only one normal key. Plus the lobby chairs are very uncomfortable.

The staff was very helpful and friendly. The beds were comfortable. Great location, close to the old town and lots of attractions, very walkable city! Good wifi for video calls.

We have a suspicion that even though the hotel strictly states there is to be no smoking anywhere in the building, the staff or perhaps the previous guests were smoking in the rooms we occupied. The smell was heavy and obvious and there was some horrible cologne like smell used to mask the scent. The smell was heaviest in the bathrooms. It caused my mom and I to both have allergy attacks, which is common for her especially around cigarette smoke but not at all common for me. We actually left the “do not enter” signs up on our door just to prevent the possibility of the smell getting worse when they come to change sheets and towels. The concierge was excellent and I think truly dedicated to there being no smoking, but someone definitely smoked and is trying to hide it.

The breakfast was excellent! Definitely tailored to foreign guests as bacon and eggs are not traditional German/Austrian breakfast foods. Location was good. A small hike from Salzburg city center but very straightforward and easy to access. Staff was excellent and very helpful. Unloading the cars was easily done on the curb and directions/distance to parking were also easy.

There was only liquid soap in the bathroom, I guess the kind that can be used as body and hair wash as well but I really would have liked a shampoo and conditioner. I guess it's done to reduce waste and plastic packaging but a dispenser for 2-in-1 shampoo & conditioner would have made the trick.

Very friendly staff, the room was comfortable and clean, the breakfast was good. We asked for baby cot and it was provided, asked to leave our laptops on the reception at check out, so we can visit the city, it wasn't a problem. We traveled with out dog, there's a 7 EUR fee, I guess because of extra cleaning because nothing was provided for the dog (in other hotels where there's a fee, at least a bowl and dog bed/mat is provided).
