Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

AustraliaWe were greeted by Lorenzo on arrival to Hallstatt and guided up to this stunning property. Lorenzo took the time to show us around and educate us on the history of his home. He was so pleasant and warm, and it made us feel right at home. The property itself is magnificent. The photos simply don't do it justice. It truly feels like living history. The bathroom is so beautiful, and the beds were some of the comfiest I have slept in whilst being in Europe! The French linen made us want to buy some to take home to Australia! The location was in the centre of the town, close to everything, yet very quiet. We were lucky enough to see some snow before we left, which made Hallstatt look even more magical. We felt very lucky to experience Hallstatt and retire to such a beautiful home each night.

United StatesThe only issue we ran into had nothing to do with Living History. We were in Hallstatt at the end of November which is off season. The town felt deserted. All the shops and museums were closed, and there were very few places open to find food. We ate dinner at a hotel across the square from the apartment, but, when we tried to find breakfast the next morning, every restaurant, including the one in the hotel, was closed. Since we had taken the ferry to Hallstatt, we felt a bit stuck without food. Thankfully, a kabob truck was open by the dock, and we were able to get something to eat. If you visit during off season, understand that, apart from looking at the breathtaking views, there won't be much to do, and you may want to bring some food along.
Living History isn't just a place to stay. It's an experience. How many people can say they've stayed in a medieval mill with an entrance to an ancient salt mine in their bathroom? Everything about this place is magical, and every detail is steeped in history. Even the key to the front door is from the 16th century. The location can't be beat as the apartment is just off the town square where the ferry docks. Lorenzo is such a kind host. He met us in the square and gave us a wonderful tour of the apartment, sharing tidbits and stories about the history behind its walls. The floors in the apartment are heated, as well, which was greatly appreciated during our winter stay. If you're in Hallstatt for a night, don't miss out on this unique adventure!

United StatesThe house is a *little* warm in late September when we stayed (but the air right outside the house was delightfully cool due to the water running down from the mountain). Bring your own breakfast. The cafes are closed in the morning. I tried to buy breakfast at local hotels but was turned away. The town is overrun by *day-time* tourists. (I now understand the recent protests against tourists by local residents.)
The house is historic. The natural stone wall of the bathroom is truly unique. The hotel is located extremely close to the main square, so everything is within a walkable distance (including the nice restaurant that was recommended by the host).

CanadaNothing!! Everything was wonderful. From the bathrobes to the warm welcome to the fascinating history, and the modern updates. it was a stay my husband and I will never forget!
The property truly is a magical place where you can feel the history everywhere, the floors, the mountain walls the apartment was built into. It’s a stay that will have you appreciating all the history there is to offer. I have travelled all over the world for the last 20 years and this stay was the most memorable of all my stays around the world. The location is perfect. Just a few steps from the centre of the village. Our host Lea was warm and welcome. I couldn’t help but hug her for the kind welcome and tour of the apartment. Our Apartment had a little garden where you can live scape the crowds over a glass of wine or a cup of coffee. I would recommend the stay to anyone who wants to experience the history of Halstatt.

Hong KongIf there is one more rubbish bin in living room, it would be perfect.
Best interior room design I have ever live. The room looks exactly like the photo. And it just 10 sec walk from Hallstatt square but also will not disturb by the noise of crowds in there. The host is very helpful to help in all time.

Hong KongThe pillows are a bit soft for my liking but it’s just personal preference.
Lorenzo kindly came to the property and briefed us about the property and the surrounding area. It was super helpful as we would not have known how to operate the door! The property is beautiful and situated right in the main plaza. It comes with rich history and it’s super cool to stay in such an old (but well renovated and preserved) building. Decor is tasteful and we absolutely loved the bathroom!

UkraineWe liked pretty much everything. But if this apartment would have a mini fridge it would be very convenient:) However, there is only one grocery store in the town (and not the best one), and the restaurant across the main square is overpriced and served average food. Almost everything is not open till 11, so it's gonna be slightly difficult to find a decent breakfast in Hallstatt. The town itself is beautiful, but, unfortunately, overcrowded with tourists, so the best time for sightseeing is early morning or evening hours.
The place is incredible! Real museum. We spent our honeymoon there, and really recommend this apartment!
