Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomThere really isn't anything to criticise because the accommodation is really good value when measured against the Austrian market rates.
Great accommodation, breakfast and location, once you allow for the fact that there are very cheap and rapid ways of getting between the hotel and the centre of the city by electric trolleybus. Don't waste money on taxis. The unique selling point is actually Herbert himself. A genuinely friendly and helpful man who bends over backwards to help. His recommendations and travel tips really enhanced our stay. If we're ever in Salzburg again we will definitely try to stay here. You're made to feel truly welcome. This was a highpoint of our 10th wedding anniversary trip around Europe. Thanks Herbert!

AustraliaThe lack of a small refrigerator so you could have drinks and cold snacks in your room.
Herbert was a fantastic host. The location was perfect, not in a busy area, very close to local tram/bus stations to the city and attractions. Breakfast was great with fresh local produce and excellent coffee

United StatesHerbert and family were delightful. Very helpful with bus information into the festival (which we didn’t know about but were happy to be guided there). Breakfast was great too. My husband could have chatted the day away with Herbert if we hadn’t had other plans! Very pleasant stay.

United StatesThe hotel was in a great location just a short walk from the local tram. The hotel owner was fantastic and very welcoming, offering some great travel recommendations around the city and was very knowledgeable. The rooms had a physical key which I actually enjoyed as part of the building's charm. Breakfast was great and he was very accommodating for our departure needs. Would definitely return to stay again.

SloveniaThe house is old, but nicely renovated. If someone walks in the corridor or stairs, it can be heard. The only drawback I would point out is that there was no soap in the bathroom, which is basic. I hope they will fix this tiny mistke in the future.
Quiet neighborhood and close to the city center. Herbert is a very friendly and helpful host. I must point out the excellent breakfast.

The property was rustic in decor and clean. Basic but everything you needed. It was 1/2 hour walk into the centre walking slowing , but a bus 2 mins from property takes you straight there. The owner Herbert was lovely and very helpful. Would stay again.

HungaryThe accommodation is located near a busy road so sleeping with the windows open is noisy a little.
The room and the bathroom was extremely large so they are comfortable for more days staying. The staff was very friendly and gave so much advice to see in the city. It was easy to reach the city by walk or by trolley bus.

SwedenWe liked our stay at the hotel: 1. Very friendly owner. 2. Big double and very comfortable bed. 3. Tasty breakfast. 4. Big and clean room and bathroom. 5. Very nice and stylish tableware - that was really very impressive. 6. Overall design of the hotel is classical wood - that gives you special taste of staying at a cozy home. 7. It was absolutely calm and not noisy. Highly recommend. It was a pity we did not stay longer.

Czech RepublicCommunication with the owner was absolutely fine from the beginning. The owner of the guesthouse and his son are very pleasant and helpful people - always smiling, they can advise or arrange everything. The equipment of the room in this price category it is absolutely sufficient and without any problems. The location of the accommodation could not be better - outside the city center (so there is no problem with parking the car), but the bus stop is right in front of the guesthouse and you can get anywhere in Salzburg very quickly by bus. In addition, thanks to the Salzburg card (I recommend buying it for a tourist trip), the bus is free. Overall I highly recommend and rate 11/10*.

United KingdomWe stayed in Hotel Pension Herbert for a couple of days before heading into the Alps, and returned again for a couple of days at the end of our trip. Herbert is an excellent host - he is so happy to give suggestions and advice, or to talk all things historical and geographical! The breakfast was delicious and filling - on our second day Herbert even went and procured some vegan spreads and hummus for me, his hospitality was really exceptional. The hotel is less than 10 minutes from the centre by bus (the stop is right outside the hotel) and a 24 hour bus pass is around €6. There’s an excellent Italian next door open Mon-Fri and a Spar about a 5 minute walk for any essentials. One thing to note (not a criticism, just good to know) - the room doesn’t have toiletries so bring your own shampoo, otherwise it’s spacious, comfortable and a really great rate. Overall we would be very happy to stay again and wholeheartedly recommend it as a great base for Salzburg and anywhere in the region.
