Very few UK airports offer Salzburg as a spring/summer destination. Why? Some of the Salzburg attractions, including the Natural History Museum and the Cathedral only accept the Salzburg card in part payment, representing around only 30%, whereas others accept it as 100% payment. This is not clear until trying to enter.

We were very much impressed with the hospitality and being given sound advice from Herbert and his family to ensure that we made the most of our stay. The breakfast included good quality, local produce and there was plenty of it. There is an excellent and efficient bus/trolley bus service operating in and around Salzburg and the accommodation is conveniently located for easy use of the service. We noted that there are numerous cycle lanes which are frequently used. There are many visitor attractions and museums in close proximity and we bought a Salzburg card so that we could visit many of them and use the public transport frequently throughout our stay. The scenery in and around Salzburg and the Hotel Pension Herbert is stunning and levels of cleanliness are exceptionally high. We would definitely recommend staying in Salzburg and in particular at this accommodation.

We knew when we booked this place that it wouldn't be right in the city center, and we knew that the room wouldn't be akin to a luxury hotel. Our plan was just to sleep there. The beds were comfortable, and the space was more than adequate. Penzion Herbert wouldn't be a place for the luxury traveler, but it was fine for us.

The best feature of Penzion Herbert is Herbert himself. When Herbert checked us in, he spent a half hour advising us about things to do in and near Salzburg, and he even loaned us his only map of the valleys and lakes in the Alps just a few kilometers from Salzburg. Herbert is friendly and knowledgable. His advice saved us money and made us aware of the beauty of the mountains which wouldn't often be on a tourist's agenda.

There really isn't anything to criticise because the accommodation is really good value when measured against the Austrian market rates.

Great accommodation, breakfast and location, once you allow for the fact that there are very cheap and rapid ways of getting between the hotel and the centre of the city by electric trolleybus. Don't waste money on taxis. The unique selling point is actually Herbert himself. A genuinely friendly and helpful man who bends over backwards to help. His recommendations and travel tips really enhanced our stay. If we're ever in Salzburg again we will definitely try to stay here. You're made to feel truly welcome. This was a highpoint of our 10th wedding anniversary trip around Europe. Thanks Herbert!

Herbert and family were delightful. Very helpful with bus information into the festival (which we didn’t know about but were happy to be guided there). Breakfast was great too. My husband could have chatted the day away with Herbert if we hadn’t had other plans! Very pleasant stay.

The hotel was in a great location just a short walk from the local tram. The hotel owner was fantastic and very welcoming, offering some great travel recommendations around the city and was very knowledgeable. The rooms had a physical key which I actually enjoyed as part of the building's charm. Breakfast was great and he was very accommodating for our departure needs. Would definitely return to stay again.

The house is old, but nicely renovated. If someone walks in the corridor or stairs, it can be heard. The only drawback I would point out is that there was no soap in the bathroom, which is basic. I hope they will fix this tiny mistke in the future.

The property was rustic in decor and clean. Basic but everything you needed. It was 1/2 hour walk into the centre walking slowing , but a bus 2 mins from property takes you straight there. The owner Herbert was lovely and very helpful. Would stay again.

The accommodation is located near a busy road so sleeping with the windows open is noisy a little.

The room and the bathroom was extremely large so they are comfortable for more days staying. The staff was very friendly and gave so much advice to see in the city. It was easy to reach the city by walk or by trolley bus.

Very nice and stylish tableware - that was really very impressive. 6. Overall design of the hotel is classical wood - that gives you special taste of staying at a cozy home. 7.
