How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

A lot of activity proposed by the backpack. You can either participate or live your life but it is great ambiance.

The kitchen wasn’t that big, as well as the fridge, but it was clean
It was a very cosy and small hostel where it was easy to socialize. The hostel is located close to the beach and the town. The staff are very friendly and show you around when you arrive.

Little cute hostel that feels like a big shared house. There are mostly long terms but they’re all so lovely and friendly and the owners are really warm hearted. I really enjoyed my stay!

The top bunk bed wasn't my thing really was a little hard to get up and down throughout the night

The laundry was 15 dollars, a bit expensive.
The people there are amazing, it has a big kitchen, the common area was really cool, toilet art was top tier, very funny

This was our favourite stay in Aus so far- we felt welcome from the minute we arrived, and there was such a friendly atmosphere between the staff and guests, no matter how long you’d been there for. We were checked in by Vicky and she provided us with loads of recommendations of fun things to do in the area, and checked us in hours earlier than we were expecting as we’d arrived after a night bus. The common areas were really spacious and there was space to relax as well as socialise.

The stuff was very friendly and eager to help. The place is very relaxed. Room was small but completely enough for a night or two. To go to the common bathroom you need to pass the yard so if you are afraid of spiders think twice. We saw a few but small ones. It is a place for young people ( we are not that young) but everyone was very respectful and quiet at night

The Staff was really nice! In particular Vicky. Very nice and welcoming. Definitely go and visit the hostel if you need a place to stay in Port Mac

The dorms are quite simple and could use a bit more attention. Nothing too bad though.

Very friendly staff who took the time to show us around and to recommend places to visit in town. The pack Packers were all friendly. It was great to hear all the different accents. Importantly, they were all happy voices and full of the joys of life.

Nothing, by far one of the best backpackers I've stayed at.
I loved the friendliness of the staff, Vicki in particular. Great service and very welcoming. Me and my mate were welcomed like family by both the staff and the guests. The artist who worked on the walls and doors for the place is really talented, would love to pass on the compliment if possible.

The rooms got super hot at night despite having the window open and 3 fans. At one point the fans went off when one of the power sockets tripped. Luckily, a staff member was very helpful to provide and install an extension cord in the middle of the night so we could get the fans working again.
Great staff and facilities. Location was great, only a short walk to the beach. Lovely vibe. The staff helped rectify my problem so quickly.
