Overall cleanliness, place was shabby and in need of a paint, seating for the table was terrible.(to low)

Behind the Colonial Motel is a converted church which is now four "king" suites with spa, we had booked the four units for our visit - very interesting place, still had the super high ceilings and the doors and windows were original to the church, unfortunately, there was a couple of small things that were a bit of a let down, there was very little choice of tea/coffee, only one small milk so 1 or 2 cuppas and you're done, bathroom soap, shower gel & shampoo/conditioner in unit seemed to be the same thing and everything was just about empty, the microwave door was cracked, bathroom door wouldn't stay shut if the exhaust fan was on and this had to be turned on to turn the lights on, 2nd switch on wall did nothing?, TV remote only worked sporadically but as we were only there for one night none of these things bothered us, if we had been staying longer it probably would have been an issue. Most of this picked up by family member who works in accommodation.

We were in Castlemaine for a wedding at nearby Ravenswood Homestead, which was a lovely spot for a wedding/reception. We arrived Saturday afternoon and checked out Sunday morning so did not spend a lot of time in Castlemaine, we did however visit Johnny Baker (downtown) for breakfast which is a lovely bakery that has a great park across the road where we had our coffee. Unfortunately on this trip, we didn't have any spare time to do much else in the town.

The toilet door had been broken the weekend before and was still not replaced. There was broken window with a roughly saucer sized piece missing. Decor was old. When checking in the manager had an open bottle of beer behind the counter. I didn’t see him drink from it and he didn’t smell of beer, but it was not a good look.

Good location close to town centre. Bed was great, very comfortable. Plenty of space in the room. Manager was helpful.

The shower gel had not been topped up and was empty. There was only a hand towel and no bath math or otherwise that was a small bath mat and there was no hand towel.

Gorgeous room and we loved the spa, although some instructions for the strange spa set up would have been helpful.

Missing a top sheet in one of the single beds. Missing a bulb in the lamp above the double bed. It was very basic for the price with no extra facilities.

The toilet had trouble flushing, they had no bin in the toilet and tissues.

The staff were friendly and we were close to everything.

We were charged twice for our room, once via Bookings and then again at the venue. The manager said Bookings had not paid him and unless we pay again we couldn’t stay. Our money was eventually reimbursed at the location.

The toilet didn’t flush and the shower didn’t drain so water went all over floor and under vanity. Also was give only one towel and a face washer. No bath at or extra towels and there was three of us. The white paint on parking bays need to be done again as parking very hard to define.

Toilet was broken. Could tell someone had attempted fix it but it clearly needed a plumber. No one was at reception when we arrived or when we left, which was weird considering it was a weekend.

Close to town and the station the hotel was well located for train travel. Matt was friendly and helpful. We stayed in a luxury apartment converted from a church with a king size bed and spa….it was delightfully charming.
