A comfortable stay in a charming historic hotel

    Everything was fine.

The location is excellent, central, close to the Ballarat Art Gallery, and a short walk from Ballarat train station. The staff were friendly and helpful. I had breakfast at the hotel restaurant and I definitely recommend it. The Wi-Fi was very good and reliable. All in all, I had a very comfortable stay.

The room was small, but nice. Because the room was small, the beds were small. However, they were certainly comfortable enough. There is lots of old-world charm. The staff were lovely and very accommodating.

Central location within walking distance to shops. Lovely hotel restaurant and a local favourite cafe at the corner. Loved the historic character 😍

    1. Make sure your reception staff speaks English properly. We arrived on Anzac Friday (for 3 nights stay) and was greeted by an Indian guy whose English is atrocious. Difficulty of gaining access to hotel car park. Thankfully he wasn't there for rest of our stay. 2. Entrance to hotel from hotel car park was underwhelming. Such a glamourous hotel should have a better entrance from the hotel's car park. Your guests are made to walk with their luggage through a gaming/pokies machine parlour full of feral people before reaching the hotel lobby. Bad first impression. 3. Ballarat in winter is chilly at night. The hotel has 3 different fireplaces in the lobby none of which has a real crackling fire going. No wonder the lobby has few guests congregating in the evening. You should have at least live gas fire going in one of those fireplaces.

Hotel location was perfect centrally located in Ballarat. Room was small but clean and newly renovated bathroom wonderful. Breakfast and dinner were good. Staff were friendly and efficient. Hotel interior opulent and historic.

There is limited parking on-site, but not unexpected for the centre of a city.

The hotel is in an excellent location and offers very good value for money. The room was well-appointed and stylish (as was of course the entire hotel). The room was nice and quiet. Not only is the location good for reaching everything in the city, but even Sovereign Hill was only a 30min walk.

I did arrange for late check out. But found myself locked out of the room when I returned after the standard check out time. This was quickly resolved but it should not have happened and having just run the Marathon the extra trip to and from the room was unwelcome. Minor issue

    - Found Window furnishings were in need of repair, i.e. drapes had partly come away from tracks which, compromised privacy. - There were also light globes that needed replacement.

Heritage building, very professional and pleasant staff.

The heating was very high. Although Ballarat is cold, I found the room tempereature for sleeping uncomfortably high. I wasn't able to locate a thermostat to turn the temperature down

It is a wonderful historic building, tastefully restored to its former glory. It is very well located in the centre of Ballarat, with good facilities and eateries close by

    The restaurant was very cold.

A lovely, comfortable, historic hotel in town with the benefit of secure car parking. Note there is a daily charge for car parking. We ate in the restaurant during our stay and the food was very good. The portion sizes are big. We would definitely recommend the grazing board

There was a used towel in the bathroom when we entered. The room smelt musty but after awhile it went away. The cupboards most of the time refused to close and sometimes would open in the middle of the night.

Swift check in. Old and vintage feel to the place. The lift was fantastic, It seemed like i travelled back in time whenever I got in

The beautiful old lift and the decor was beautiful

The hotel is well situated and you can see how majestic it used to be. The carpet throughout the hotel needs to be replaced. Also we had the external aircon/heating units outside our windows so it was quite noisy. When this is said the beds were comfortable.

At breakfast we were asked if we wanted a cup of tea so said yes, but this was charged extra on our bill at checkout and wasn't stated on the menu. Not a big deal, but should say something or tea should be included in the breakfast.

Breakfast was good, but I preferred it when you had the buffet style breakfast a few years ago. I struggled a bit to get the hot water going in the shower and found that it could suddenly go cold :( Some of the large upstairs rooms that we ventured in to looked as though they needed a good vacuum & clean. Just some constructive criticism here :) It might be helpful to have a bag stand in the bedrooms, although I realise that space is limited.

The poker machines were intrusive and disappointing to see. I didn’t expect them to be in an old hotel and they detracted from the appeal of the place.

The bed was slopping with a ridge through the centre. Therefore it was old and I suspect beyond its 'use by date'. Upon waking I had a crick in my lower back which only come from an uncomfortable bed!

We enjoyed the ambience of a period hotel. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. Secure parking was available for a limited number of vehicles at a cost which was OK.

    I enjoyed everything.

The hotel was close to the Federation University, where I was attending a 5 day course. It was easy to walk to and from both venues. It was close to a few cafes, and not far from the central shopping area, and the Arts precinct.
