How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

The only downside was the poor quality of the internet - it was so variable from hour to hour and sometimes I struggled to have any kind of connection. This was a huge issue for me as I required good internet access as I was in Sydney for business/study. It also meant that I couldn't get the Chromecast to link properly because the internet was so poor.
Awesome location - walked most places and if I couldn't then public transport was very accessible. Only a 5-10 min walk from Museum Station if you're catching the train to/from the airport! Room was great - very spacious and comfortable. I was there by myself but even if I was travelling with my partner, we would've been comfortable

Breakfast wasn’t great, food cold. Took forever to check in to the room and when we tried to call the front desk there was no answer.
Location was good and service at bar in hotel was great.

The room smelt damp. Walls between rooms are extremely thin and does not help when next to noisy neighbours up late.

The awful stench of cigarette smoke as people congregate on the entry steps to smoke. No wonder there is an overbearing smell of air freshener in the foyer.
Location fabulous, easy walk into CBD.

I’ve stayed here several times and received a room that the window wasn’t sealed properly so was noisy from traffic noise below and also had a cool draught coming in. The pillows and bed weren’t as comfy as the beds I’d slept in previously and i could hear my neighbour watching tv and their young baby crying. I was busy so didn’t have time to ask to change rooms but all my other stays have been amazing and quiet and comfy.
Great location close to public transport and Haymarket/CBD and Surry Hills. Good rooms.

The location is great, near everything. It's very easy to access public transport and close to asian restaurant and shops. The staffs were great and nice. However, the internet signal is very low and unstable.

Wifi was poor but there had just been some maintenance done, so will attribute this to that.
Location was great and the room was a good size with comfortable beds and the option of different pillows. Breakfast was lovely and really couldn't fault this stay for money we paid.

Fire alarm went off, and no announcement was made to evacuate, and when it was over, there was no announcement again for us to return to our rooms. Very poor safety procedures

That there was a sign in room to hang towels if you plan to use them again. We did that yet towels were changed daily. Cleaning staff should know Ibis policy. Room had enough space for couch but there wasn't one. Also, we killed a cockroach. It would be nice to have place fumigated regularly.

The showers were a little bit lackluster, the pressure was low, and the heat was not particularly high.
The location of the Hotel was very good, allowing for quick travel to many great locations. The service I received by the staff was excellent, assisting in setting up a second bed in my room for the one night I had one of my friends needing to stay in my room.

We didn't have our rooms close, as requested some time in advance. Our room wasn't the configuration requested. Our second room was occupied. When we entered there were people in the room, very embarrassing. A trip back to reception and another room was issued but this none of this should have happened. It wasn't a last minute booking.
Location, staff, Restaurant and amenities were all good.
