Disappointing to not be able to walk to the beach when it was so close… a long drive in on private road

The view was magnificent… watching the weather across the ocean and soaking up the landscape was beyond expectation.

The drive in is abit hectic but well worth it. Stock up on supplies so you never have to leave. Beach access is also an issue but it wouldn’t stop me staying again.

The location and views are phenomenal. The actual accommodation is beautiful. Photos just don’t do it justice!!

Theres not much in the compendium about Cloudy Bay Beach itself. A simple "mud map" of the property's grounds and clear notes on how to get to the beach is lacking, and to my mind should be an essential inclusion. It would take minutes to draw one! Jon the caretaker told us how to find beach access in his welcome chat, and that he had put in some steps but we still couldn't find it, (and we are experienced bush walkers) The compendium say beach access via front fence line gate - where? We walked as far as the neighbouring property fenceline to the east without finding beach access through the almost waist high scrub so sadly we left without setting foot on Cloudy Bay Beach at all so that was very disappointing.

Loved the fact that it's totally off grid and solar powered. The open plan layout & the amazing floor to ceiling glass fronting the ocean are amazing. (There are no blinds but we were fine with that.) The big log burner fire kept us nice & warm, and at night you could look at ocean views from the lovely big bed. Well equipped kitchen with many basic supplies provided. We were there during stormy weather but even on a bad weather day the views are still incredible Must mention that the access is a 20 minute drive from the main road - its on a very bumpy dirt track through pretty patches of forest & coastal dunes - beautiful.

Took us back a bit at first with no curtains or window coverings which meant early wake up but adjusted to that as stay went on. Wasn't an issue.

Loved the isolation, the view from all areas was amazing. With the ever-changing conditions happening right in front of you. Cooking facilities were exactly what we needed would definitely go back

There was nothing we didn't like, but visitors should be aware that it is a very long rough track to drive from the road and would be difficult to manage after rain or in the dark. The entire wall looking out to the bay is full height windows which makes for a stunning view, but if you don't like to wake with the sun you may need a sleep mask as there are no curtains.

The remote location and views of Cloudy Bay were stunning. John was very helpful explaining how the property facilities worked. It is definitely a retreat from the world!

Mures retreat is magical and we can't wait to go back again. We were so pleasantly surprised, from the million dollar view to the beautiful warm fireplace (which had been set up ready for us). Jon went above and beyond to ensure we were comfortable and had an enjoyable stay. It is 1 in a million and we are so grateful for our time at this beautiful property

What a location! You’re literally on the edge of the southern ocean with floor to ceiling glass views of Cloudy Bay. We were blown away by the house and facilities. We loved the fireplace and great kitchen amenities. Very well setup especially considering that the house is fully off grid and sustained by solar panels with back-up batteries & generator for extreme cases, rain water tanks, and gas for cooking/hot water. Only downside was that you had to drive back about 5-10 mins to get to the beach itself.

no direct access to the beach. it’s a 4km trip by road but only 50m through the scrub.

What a view!!!! Cloudy Bay is gorgeous. we drove the car onto the beach and had a swim in the surf. The house is 3.7km off the main road, isolated (hence a retreat), a simple but elegantly designed house. it is very comfortable and well kitted out. fully off-grid power. no Wifi provided but Telstra 4G cellular coverage is good enough for most needs. Jon, the property manager, is a great bloke. There is heaps of wildlife - wallabies (including albinos), birds, possums, wombats, etc. We stayed 3 nights, next time we would stay a week.

Look forward to returning with steps down the front! Not the end of the world, there is a sneaky cut through further up.

Off grid living done right!! Solar power with 16 batteries, tank water, next to zero phone reception, no tv or Internet. Incredibly relaxing amongst natures best. Won’t think twice about coming back… next time with a 4WD! Thanks for having us, truly beautiful stay :)

We were there in winter and it was a little chilly even with the fire on but if you close the internal doors and just heat the living space it gets warm enough. Beach access was also a little hard to work out.

Its all about the location. If you like it wild and remote feeling without being very remote you will love it. The house is simple but had all we needed. The house felt to me like a beautiful place to retreat to after a day in the environment. (Although I also spent time with a book and the view). I thought it was very special.

There is no direct access to walk the beach which may be a problem for some and a deep clean of the property could be done but then I am pretty fastidious about these things.

Amazing location, totally off the beaten track. Private and well equipped. We loved the property and would definitely stay again for a weekend of decompression from the city life. Lots of things to see and do on the island. Lovely, engaging property manager.

Booking.com and Mures never advised me that there is no beach access. In fact, it states ^BEACH FRONT" twice in the features part of the ad. It is not beach front as Mures doesn't own the strip of land between the house and beach. House requires maintenance and proper cleaning, especially the windows. Driveway very long and rough should also be advised on websites.

    Location was superb

Access to the beach could be better and I believe the owners are addressing this issue. Instructions need to be updated, be clear and concise for use of energy, access to the beach and general walks around the area. Additionally a guide for bushfire - procedure, warnings and evacuation would be my recommendation (using a step-by-step guide)

The location is great to get away from tourists. Perfect place to unwind and relax without technology. Amenities are pretty good for cooking and relaxing. The peace and quiet of the place allows for great study, working, relaxing or convalescing.
