How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews

No shelf to put soap and hair products in the shower. Not good for those with bad backs
Provided a room swap so access to car was easy without many stairs. Very quiet location even though near the canal

The only issue that was at the breakfast buffet on the second day.There was no hot water for tea, no serving utensils, and the food was cold as the candles under the hot plates had not been lighten. We declined the breakfast and asked for a refund. The receptionist was apologetic, but the restaurant waitress was annoyed and wanted to charge us for the cereals we had eaten before we found out the food was cold. We would have paid for these had her attitude been different, but the fault lay with the restaurants shift(her) for not lighting the burners. We were given a full refund, but the attitude of the waitress left a sour taste in our mouth. We told the reception that the room, dinner, and the previous breakfast were great, but the cold food let them down that morning. We are visitors to Australia from Scotland and really enjoying the country, but this incident, unfortunately, will probably be all we remember of our visit to Port Macquarie. It's such a shame, as without this incident, we would have scored 10 out of 10. Hopefully, if the hotel reads this, it will act as a lesson learned.
The recently refurbished room on the first floor had a fantastic view of the river. The room was clean and had tea and coffee facilities. On the first night, we ate in the restaurant, and I had a delicious prawn pasta, and my wife had a huge smoked salmon salad which was excellent value for money as we're the drinks from the bar. We had the buffet breakfast on the first morning, which was adequate and again value for money at 20AUD. Bar staff and reception were friendly and helpful.

The shower arm and taps need replacing in room 206. The shower arm falls down while showering and taps are too hard to turn on and off - both hot & cold need replacing.
The location was close to where we needed to be. Plenty of parking.

‘Kitchen area’ very cramped. River front ground floor rooms were not very private with lots of passers by.
A very good location. Short walk into town and seafront restaurants. Waterfront location. Good restaurant and bar on site. Nice pool.

No lifts. Buffet breakfast was unfortunately disappointing, food was only just warm or overcooked. Despite this the staff are very friendly and accommodating.
Great quiet location yet close enough to walk into town. Nice pool, very clean. Daily room clean and a relaxing atmosphere.

Woman at reception who was working on Thursday 4th January afternoon, she was not helpful, not professional, very rude way of speaking, any question she answered “this is not our problem, it’s your problem with Booking.com” However other guy came and solved the issue easily in a minute.
