Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomRoom was overlooked through large windows and glass doors from both the street across the canal and the courtyard. No privacy at all unless the curtains were drawn. There was a notice in the reception that any attempt to change the temperature of the room would result in a €150 fine. The justification was the energy crisis. They choose the temperature, you pay the fairly substantial bill at the hotel. The tone of the note was all wrong and set the scene for a general sense of dissatisfaction with the value of the hotel. In summary, I wouldn't stay here again....
Good location Decent breakfast but nothing special

CanadaThe room was quite small with only one luggage tray to put a suitcase on, but we had 2. There were no chairs in the room, likely because it was small, but we found 1 elsewhere and used it for the other suitcase. My personal preference, for breakfast, would have been a choice of plain yoghurt, rather than all fruit flavoured, along with muesli & bananas, but it was good for the other choices.
We had about a 10-15 minute walk to the old center of town, via several routes, which was easy to do. Our view was overlooking a canal, which was very pleasant, able to see the tour boats go by. The window sills were quite deep, so we were able to use them to put things on, as there was no counter space at the sink. The lighting in the room was good, always nice to have lights to read by that aren't too dim. The ladies working in the hotel and helping with the breakfast were friendly and helpful. The buffet breakfast was good, with decent choices of things to eat.

United Kingdomroom 28 shouldn’t really be a room - it’s in the basement, there is an awkward gap between the stairs down and the entrance to the room and outside the room smelled of drains.

HungaryIt was extremely cold even though we stayed at the beginning of May. Referring to the energy crisis, the heating was controlled remotely so we couldn’t heat the room for the night, only at an additional €50 cost. Obviously I understand it as this issue affects everyone but it shouldn’t be an excuse when running a hotel.
Close to the central area, nice staff, value for the money.

South AfricaThe floor was not finished in places. The self check in is impersonal, and having to be there at 10 am the next day meant we couldn't be out and about as planned. Everything is charged extra, even an extra blanket, and at the price you would expect better service. The breakfast was very basic and the coffee nearly undrinkable.
The location is good, beds comfortable and rooms clean.

United KingdomNo hanging spaces - 2 hangers on the back of the door! Only two tiny pillows on the bed, an additional pillow was chargeable. No tea/coffee facilities without a charge. The room was quite cold and you were not able to turn up the heating without incurring a £150 fine and you had to pay for an additional blanket. The list of rules/sanctions was unwelcoming. The bathroom didnt provide much privacy and was very basic. Although this was a budget hotel there are comparably priced chain hotels that provide better value and more comfort.
Breakfast was very good and staff were lovely. Towels were changed. Location was excellent.

HungaryI got a paper that there is only 19 degrees in the room. It was very cold at night I had to sleep in pullover. If you want more degrees you have to pay 50 EUR. If you want extra blanket you have to pay for it!!!! (why?? It should be normal to give extra blanket if I payed for a hotel but it is cold) . It should be normal thing too to give shower gel in a hotel... :( . If you want, you have to pay for it. (I got a small soap in the first day to wash my hand). At the reception was nobody (never!!!) but they wrote should have been from 8-18.
Perfect location, just in the middle of the city. The room was big enough and very clean. It was cleaned every day. The breakfast was good and they could give me glutenfree bread too. The bed was bit size and comfortable but so high that I had to climb for it. (although I am tall)

United Kingdomthe drawbacks and therefore my score were the following: we wished that the heating was higher. the hotel controls the heating (bc of the crisis) and to be honest we were very cold because we happened to have very cold and rainy days. Also, we had to pay to use the hair drier - I really hoped it would be included. shampoo/conditioner were also not included - didn’t kind that much, yet still.
