Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

CanadaWe were told that checkout time was at 11 AM on the day of our departure. At 10:30 AM on the day of our departure we had some woman walk into our room and announced. I'm assuming that she was the cleaning lady but It completely caught us off-guard and one of us happened to be sitting on the toilet right in front of the door when it happened. She looked in her room and immediately slammed the door and said she'd come back later. It would be greatly appreciated if this never happened again. It was a huge invasion of privacy. once you know that the person has checked out that should be the time when the cleaning ladies come. Never before......😠
The breakfast is great!! Our stay was comfortable and affordable.

CanadaThis is my fourth stay at Chestnut Residence. I always feel welcome by the staff. They remembered me by name, so that was a plus. I am accommodated with my particular illnesses, which puts my mind at ease, and makes my stay that much more enjoyable. I've had four different rooms, so I can give a well-rounded review. These rooms are no nonsense. It is a residence throughout the year, and I'm sure the students aren't very easy on their rooms. Yes, it used to be a hotel, and they are in the process of renovating the rooms. Some have some small holes in the wall - those holes can be from screws being removed from walls to one that was the size of a dime in the washroom - as others have noted. They make is sound like you can climb into the next room. Nothing of the sort. You also have to remember your location. There is no way you're getting this price at the Sheraton, Marriott, etc. The room quality is not the same as those establishments either. If you want a posh spot in the heart of the core, then look elsewhere. However, if you want a safe place to hang your hat that is less than a five minute walk to the Eaton Centre (two to three minutes for this fast walker) with a friendly staff and an eclectic mix of guests, then this is the place for you. I met business professionals, tourists, people who were there for medical visits and more. I spoke my native tongues (Francais and English), as well as Spanish, Italian and Japanese. I'm sure I could have spoken many more, but they're the only ones I know. Final thought: I love staying here and will continue to do so. I don't need a lot of fuss - just a clean place to sleep that's close the everything. I used to live in Toronto so I know how hard it is to find a decent room for an affordable price. There are plenty of 500+ dollar a night (and more) hotels in the heart of the city. There are also a lot of hostels that are cheaper (and sketchy) compared to Chestnut Residence.

CanadaMonitoring at the door of the cafeteria could lighten up a bit, for those leaving with an apple, a coffee or a muffin. It was a bit intense to be stopped over stuff like that. And it would have been nice to have access to the pool table - when I asked, I was told it was for students only, and remained dark and unused the entire time we were there. Maybe students could have been given preference - but if it was not in use? We would have enjoyed that.
Location was excellent - clean, quiet and exactly as advertised. Location was exceptional, with view of City Hall. Breakfast was OK - basic but good. We would stay again for sure. Good value for money in downtown Toronto in July.

United StatesThe rooms are a little underwhelming need some upgrades. Parking garage below building was a little scary, kind of dark.
Very convenient to downtown and all transportation. Walkable to Chinatown. Lots of shops, stores ,transit, the trolley car puts you down right at the entrance of the block. Very convenient after you've been walking all day. The hotel is Located right on the back of the Big Toronto sign, A must do at night. Parking is underground of building-one of the reasons we chose this location as we drove in from New York ( parking around Toronto is very difficult) you pay for the amount of days stayed.$25 aday Breakfast included in price, it was very good. Good variety and selections. ( Eggs, bacon, sausages, fruit, muffins , pancakes, juices, coffee, tea ,sausages, cereals hot and cold, breads) Typical dorm style , needs some upgrade but no thrills. Good for the price and did the job. We were given a laundry card we just topped it off. The Staff was helpful and friendly.

United KingdomThe decor was grim - old fashioned with peeling wallpaper and wobbly plug sockets. Made me feel sorry for students who have to live there! The curtains wouldn't close fully in one room so I had to move to another room. No tv in the room - which was mentioned in the booking info. Didn't matter as I was only there one night.
Location is great, easy to reach by public transport and lots of restaurants and shops nearby. The staff were friendly and very helpful when an issue came up with the room. Breakfast is included and had a pretty good choice

DenmarkThe location was perfect downtown Toronto. The rooms were meant for students and they were fine as they were, but needed a little paint etcetera, but on the other hand we paid half the price for a room in a normal hotel. The breakfast was good lots of fresh food and different egg dishes.
