The staff was not all friendly at the front desk, with some confusion about the hours of the restaurant. The neighborhood was ugly and in the only part of the town that is not charming, so that's why I give it 8 out of 10.

Wonderful view of the Matterhorn! The staff in the restaurant was excellent, and the food was excellent too. I would return just for the good food and view.

The shuttle ends at 9 pm so if you arrive late, you can either walk from the train if you have light luggage, or catch a bus or cab (15 CHF).

The hotel has many things going for it: first and foremost, a great view of the Matterhorn. Our room on the 4th floor had a balcony looking directly at the magnificent mountain. Beyond that: close to the train/bus station with a free shuttle service; close to restaurants, shops, skiing, etc.; a lovely Alpine decor; comfy rooms with roomy bathrooms; very nice restaurant (priced reasonably given the very high prices of restaurants in Switzerland), and terrific buffet breakfast (it was included with our room); professional, friendly, helpful staff (most who speak English as well as French); a game area with billiards and ping pong on the lower floor, and a very impressive, indoor pool with a hot tub. The pool is large for the size of the hotel, has a large hot tub, has two powerful jets in the pool area for neck massage, has three "bubble areas" where you are surrounded by water bubbles, and has a beautiful modern design that is very unique. There are also indoor and outdoor lounges near the pool.

Even though there was a pool area for young children they were still permitted in adult areas which made it a little stressful for adults trying to relax.

This was a lovely hotel and the spa facilities were wonderful. I highly recommend a treatment at the spa as the therapist was excellent. The onsite bar The Dude had good food

Excellent hotel with beautiful facilities and amazing service. I forgot a wallet with documents and credit cards in the room safe and the staff did everything they could to get the wallet to me in a train station that was more than one hour away. Very attentive staff through out our stay too.

The room was super comfortable and spacious with a magnificent view to the Matterhorn from the balcony. Breakfasts were wonderful and the lounge was lovely and warm in front of the fire. The free shuttle pick-up and drop-off from the train station was a bonus in the snowy weather.

Actually, I like everything, However I may say that the food and service in The pub (with the bilard ) did not meet my expectations, could be better.

Breakfast excellent, Bar especially coctails were very good, Reception staff were very good, special thanks to the lady from spain:) She was very helpfull and gave us good advises. I like you guys care the the smokers, warm smoking lounge was great. And SPA was very good.

The staff need to be more customer focussed . Very friendly but need some consistency amongst themselves when a customer is asking for a request to try and help out . Always to always be inclusive towards your customers.

The swimming pool , sauna and steam room is amazing and what is needed to relax in the evenings . The bedrooms are clean . You get good views of the Matterhorn from the balcony . Very good breakfast selection .

From the time you enter you know you are in a beautiful and welcoming hotel with great woodwork throughout. The rooms were nice, spacious and quite comfortable. The spa facilities for both adults and children are first rate. Our kids were 14 & 16 and we saw all ages enjoying the spa. We spent 60-90 minutes after skiing each evening moving around the pool, hot tubs, steam rooms, saunas etc. They were all beautiful with relaxing lighting and music. Breakfast had a good selection of options including made to order eggs. Everything was very good. It wasn't the top breakfast I have had at a four star hotel in European ski resorts but still very solid and everyone will be more than satisfied. The location is off the main street at the edge of the main village about a seven minute walk into the center of the village and very quiet. The Gornergrat train is a 4-5 minute walk in ski boots. The Sunnegga train is 8-10 minute walk in ski boots and the third lift is across town and too long to walk in ski boots. The ski bus stop is just a few minutes from the hotel and takes you to the Sunnegga train in a few minutes if you don't want to walk, The Matterhorn express in around ten minutes by ski bus. While you are not in the center of the resort everything including the skiing is quite accessible without too much effort. I would highly recommend the Alpen Resort Hotel. It is an excellent choice and appeared to be a great value for the money as compared to similar quality hotels.
