Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

SpainIt wasn’t ideal that we had to pay via bank transfer because they didn’t accept credit cards.
The apartment was spotless and super well equipped with anything you might need during your stay. In particular, it had all necessary kitchen appliances. It was very comfortable and functional. We had a superb time in Wengen.

FranceMy biggest problem was paying for it. It was not possible to use a credit card and I ended up having to send a wire from the USA as my French bank made it too complicated. Gabriela was very understanding and we eventually worked it out, but it was a time-consuming hassle.
I had planned to go with my daughter but was sick with Covid; she said that it was a lovely place in which to stay, great view, nice outdoor furnishing (chaise longue), comfortable, quiet.

United KingdomThese are the things I didn't like: - The natural wood is super dirty. It has a layer of black dirt sticked to it from the use. The host said that this is natural wood and that "it's very hygienic". I took the freedom to clean a small portion with water and cotton, and the wood went from black to white. You need to address this. - Others have complaint about the mattresses and I agree with them. They are low quality mattresses. The host told me that they were only a few months old, but they are already out of shape (they are clean, though). Also, the sofa bed is hard as a rock. - The pillows are a 1/10 stars. - We were given two towels: small, scratchy and with stains of bleach with the form of shoes. Art attack? - Kettle was full of limescale which we had to clean to be able to use it. - When you get into the flat there's this smell of dump (someone else has complained about this in the reviews as well) - Indications to the flat were poor probably due to english not being their first language. Here's an improvement: ... after going under the bridge, take the the second exit to the left (the first one is after the bridge, the second a few meters after). Walk along and when the street splits in a V shape take the right street. Chalet Viola is at the end of the street on the right hand side. With the proper care can go beyond 9 stars and have recurrent clients, but we aren't coming back for now. I wish you the best of luck.
The area is very nice and at a good price. - The host was respectful and communicative all the time. - 5 mins walk to the centre and ski lift. - The flat is refurbished and it looks like new - It has EVERY little thing that you can think of. Previous clients have left spices and oil which we could use, and then left some more of what we bought for the next. I loved it! - Shower is good - Area is very quiet - Cheapest rental in the area

PolandWe were not aware that the apartment is actually in a basement, which has two negative consequences. One - the rooms height is very low. As a person of 183 cm I could almost touch the ceiling with top of my head, I WAS hitting chandelier with my head, and I couldn't enter the apartment walking straight (see pictures). In the bathroom, you literally can't take shower standing, because your head hits the ceiling. The other consequence - the apartment smells like damp concrete walls - maybe the walls are not insulated from the ground. It is unfair that these facts were not mentioned in the object's description. As for the bathroom, sometimes there was an unpleasant smell from the pipes. The ceiling was not well insulated from noise - we could hear people walking all evening. Another gripe was the bed. The mattress was of a poor quality, it was not even, or maybe the frame was broken, because you could feel holes and bumps under your back. We were also very surprised by how strict were the rules provided by the host for the guests. There was only one bag for trash. According to the rules, you must buy another bag if you fill the first one, which will happen if you stay a bit longer. When leaving, you cannot leave the trash in the apartment, you must go to another street to throw it away. You are more unlucky if you have glass trash - according to rules you must go to some another hotel to leave it there. Additionally, you must not leave any food for other guests, you may use only specific cutlery for frying pans, take special care of the floor, etc. I've never seen such restrictive rules anywhere in the world. I felt almost as if I shouldn't use or touch things not to wear them out... The impression was not very hospitable. To be honest, I'm not sure we would choose Chalet Viola for our stay if we were aware of all these facts.
The cottage has a beautiful view, which is a bit obstructed by buildings in front, because the apartment was on/under ground level. Amenities were good, home furnishings were in a good condition.
