How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

There was nobody in the office and we hadn't received the code for the keys so we were waiting around for over an hour. Couldn't phone the helpline as no Internet or phone signal in the area.

Everything was pretty much well organized from arrival till leaving the apartment. Peaceful and clean place. We felt like at home. Public transport was very much accessible to go at any place with bus connections.

In all senses, the HIT Rental apartments are on the expected level, and more. Apartments are as well cleaned as they are comfortable. I'd like to mention the great treatment by the team and in particular of Cristian, who has been always available to solve any problems with a smile. Congratulations to the team for having such nice people!

The process to get our Basel cards took much energy and time to communicate with the apartment employees, as the names printed on the cards were wrong.

The location its not on point. The first night of stay the heat system was off and so its a little bit cold. The last night of stay the elivator was out of service and it was not easy for us, to move 5 floors by stairs ( with a baby stroller).
Very clean , comfortable and spaceful.

Room availability for checkin is too late
Close to train station. Also from bus station close to hotel you can take a bus to city center. Room is very comfortable

The living room could use some extra chairs as the sofa/ sofa bed was the only place to sit in the evenings and as there were 3 of us we could not sit together
Excellent location with great transport links and access to the motorway. The hosts were very friendly and professional. They answered our questions and brought us extra pillows

Just one small negative, there was a rubber protection on the bathroom light switch that kept moving, making the switch jam, so annoying.
Very well equipped, comfortable beds, super bright and clean, good location very close to public transport. Quiet area.

Only 1 key provided, not two as indicated by agreement. Very inconvenient. Television-only 7 channels, 3 had no volume, none in English. Beds in bedroom are rock hard. Black out curtains do not completely block out the morning sun. No A/C so windows all open and both fans running. (warm days that week). Cigarette smoke from other residence drifts into non-smoking apartment. Daycare center on first floor. Screaming, crying childrens voices echoes throughout the complex. Could not get futons to lie flat but they were more comfortable than the beds in bedroom. Bathroom faucet tends to leak easily. Dryers in laundry room never completely dried clothes, explains why there is a drying rack in the closet of the apartment. Short people will have difficulty reaching kitchen cabinets, glasses, plates, etc.
The location is near the Basel Bad Bahnhof and public buses stop is very close. The Basel Card is brilliant, allowing guest to travel on trams and busses within the city proper. Coop grocery store in basement of building is very convenient.

Very BAD experience, renting and staying is not just “a room”. In detail: -basic apartment all equipped with ikea stuff. Curtains are only partial and don't cover all windows, so light comes in since early morning. Very BAD and LOW customer service: -I don't have the names of the customer service people, besides it would be hard to remember them since they are relocated abroad and barely speak German. I was repeatedly asked to speak in Spanish or English. No help at necessary times with repeated lies! A valuable item was left in the apartment: after minutes of waiting for customer service, I am lied to and told it would all be thrown in the trash. Then I was told that she would contact the cleaning lady but that since it was 9 a.m. (this is Switzerland!) she was probably still asleep and that I was guilty of thinking that everyone is awake at 9 a.m. Then they told me that the apartment was occupied and that I couldn't check it myself. Lie. I went to the apartment, rang doorbell and knocked for 15 minutes and no one ever answered. - Also I could only check in at 4:45 pm (instead of 3pm) because the apartment was still dirty! Does this seem normal to you? Almost 2 hours late in being able to check in. Imagine what it means if you have commitments and have to change/shower or whatever.They write everywhere that for even a few minutes delay of the client's check out they charge half a day! Cleaning lady was very nice and she did a good job for the apartment. So is there any partial refound for the 2 hours late? What about the many lies and the bad customer service? NEVER AGAIN with HITrental.

The towels were practically see through and extremely roughy. Very cheap towels.
