Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomThere was nothing that i did nt like very much but if i was being picky then 1)the restaurant food was average- we had a burger that was very dry and crispy ( the bun) with a salad that felt slightly recycled- the tomatos looked like they had been cut in the half earlier in the day 2) To actually get some attention after we first sat down was tricky there were a couple of youngish waiters that seemed more interested in the till/ipad than customers- to be fair they were all friendly once they had seen us but it was annoying to not even be offered a menu for 5 minutes or so 3) there were still Christmas decorations up at the end of Feb and also it was nt very clean on the window sill in the dining room/conservatory- probably as it was so difficult to clean with all the decorations!
Arranging the booking was easy and Julia on reception was very friendly and helpful. The building is one of the main hotels in the town centre and looks beautiful as do teh others. nice inside it still has charm but starts to look a little dated. The bedrooms was large, comfortable and clean- the bathroom a little dark as no window but everything worked and was fine. The view of the mountains from the conservatory dining room was fabulous but would have been improved if the windows were clean.

SwitzerlandThe staff was exceptionally friendly, efficient, and helpful. It's a medieval house, so obviously the rooms are not very spacious. Dinner (Fondue vacherin) was excellent. The only minor setback is the breakfast. Nobody in the kitchen to cook food, therefore not really worth the 20 SFR

United StatesIt was a little warm in our room. Open windows only allowed flies inside. Screens or Netting or a fan would have been perfect. The room was perfect otherwise.
Lovely staff, beautiful location, prices were reasonable. The Hotel was very nice with its wooden spiral steps. Views were nice during breakfast as well. I would definitely return here in the future.

Nice and beautiful little hotel in the middle of the charming town of Gruyere. The staff was ultra friendly and very helpful, we needed some tickets for a special event at the Giger Museum and they organized them for us to assure we wont face a sold out or have to do a line at the Museum, was a very nice detail from them. Restaurant is very beautiful with a great view and food was delicious.

SingaporeNo lift
Hotel staff was bubbly and helped us carried our super heavy luggage up the stairs though there was no lift. We were offered hot coffee early next morning to go as well since we were trying to catch our train. Small act of kindness goes a long way! Recommended!

SwitzerlandWe were really waiting long for food at the restaurant. The beds were not the most comfortable. It felt like the property is hiding behind the fact it's 400 years old, by not maintaining some basic elements you expect...
The staff eventually went out of their way to make up for the fact that we were constantly waiting to be served... resulting in at least some free glasses on wine and croissants

United StatesMinor point: more wall hooks near the sink to hang toiletry kits from! This is my universal less-than-optimal comment, everywhere. Travelers carry hanging toiletry bags; the sink is where they're needed; there should always be hooks!
Location, 10/10. The staff were all excellent, especially the manager, Joulie Klimenko. She was very personable, professional, and informative. Although everything is expensive in Gruyere, the price was a good value by local standards. The dining terrace is lovely, the food very good. Our room was very clean, relatively large, the bed comfortable, and the bathroom lovely. The overall ambiance is very nice. My wife loved it. We would return.

United StatesAs it is quite a steep somewhat rocky climb up from the parking lot it would have been very helpful if we were told to park in parking lot #1. Wish there was something to be done about the flies in the dining room. We cut our meals short because it was so annoying.

CanadaThe hotel was ungodly hot. We had our window open our entire stay (2 nights) and couldn't bring the temperature down, even though it was quite cool outside. We barely slept the first night because we couldn't cool down I had a difficult time with the stairs as well. Not the hotel's fault, but be warned that it's spiral stairs so if you are wary on stairs, this might not be the place for you.
The historic hotel was fabulous looking inside and out. The rooms were well-equipped. The staff was fantastic.

FranceI didn’t like the quite loud music playing all the time throughout the hotel, in the entrance, reception area and restaurant. It put us off eating there in the evening actually. Music is great, but this was quite loud and could have been more subtle. The room is expensive for what it is. However, I enjoyed my stay and the staff are excellent and helpful
Lovely hotel in the most magical of villages. All christmassy and so beautiful.
