Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesNot always a table available in communal restaurant and leisure area if it's a busy night and you check in late.
Real authentic Swiss mountain village feel. Great view from double bed family room. Nice breakfast. Cozy restaurant. Great stone fire pizza. Informal family vibes.

United KingdomWe had two nights in a common room and one night in a private room, in the common room there was a father with two quite young kids. Personally I don’t think a hostel room is appropriate for kids so young and I wish someone told us that not everyone in the room will be over 18yo.
Great views :)

IndiaDorm is too cramped up with 16 beds (= 8 bunk beds) in a room. Alternatively, you have open space to sit along side bar.
Beautiful location (right in front of Gimmelwald Cableway Station), simple complementary breakfast and excellent bar sums up my single day stay here. We lit a campfire outside, grabbed couple of drinks from the bar & chit-chatted with everyone around. You can use common kitchen but make sure you buy the stuff from Lauterbrunnen or Interlaken while arriving as this village has literally no store. Visiting Schilthoorn is easy-peasy from here.

It's in a good location. Staff were really friendly and helpful especially Steph from Vancouver. We were about to cut our stay short because being in my 50's, the bed that I've got is not that comfortable having back problem issues and knee issues but she managed to find a more suitable bed for me so we could stay until our check out date. Thank you Steph. And Nicholas who checked us in, he was very friendly. They've got excellent customer service.

IndonesiaI like this place so much. The bathroom and toilet always clean. There is a big kitchen for us to cook. We also can talk with all the travelers here and build a network with them. The view also very beautiful. All things are perfect here.

NetherlandsThe beds in most rooms have no dividers so there is not much privacy unless you are in the male only dorm. I thought from the booking photos that there were dividers in all room but unfortunately not the case. Luckily they allowed me to move to the girls only room where I was more comfortable with the close quarters.
Location incredible, friendly people, and great food (pizzas). The breakfast was also generous and delicious. We took the cable car up to Birg at sunrise (the cafe wasn't open and there was almost no one there - it was absolutely worth it for the incredible views). It was a treat to stay here because of the views, and the friendly other travellers.

United KingdomI was in a mixed dormitory where the beds were VERY close quarters. I have stayed in hostels before and know what they are like, but this was particularly close quarters. Comfy beds though, and to be honest, it was hard to think of a negative for this place.
The location and scenery is unreal and was something I couldn't believe every time I stood and took in the landscape of where you were. Breakfast included is a touch. Staff were all super friendly and the hostel as a whole is just good vibes.

United StatesNothing! Beautiful space!!
The staff was excellent. It was our first time in a hostel and we were a bit hesitant, but once they welcomed us to the warm and inviting atmosphere we were in love with the views and people and guests. We didn’t want to leave. The pizza was great, and the mulled wine was even better. So glad we did this trip. We were very comfortable in the private room as a couple, the bed was comfy, it was warm even though it was freezing temperatures outside.

SwitzerlandWe loved this place. The hostel in welcoming and cozy. Lot of effort is put in place for that and we really felt like at home. The stuff is nice and open. Bathrooms were always clean. Can’t recommend more! Keep in mind there are a couple of cats going around if you are allergic.

SpainOur private room didn’t have a key. Someone has lost the key and they haven’t taken the steps to fix a new lock. And they didn’t seem to care about it much. One lady at the cashier apologized to us. But later on the chat someone responded saying yes our private room doesn’t have a key as if it’s a feature. The staff already mentioned the key is lost so saying that they don’t have a key is not right. For us the purpose of booking a private room was to have our privacy and sense of safety. Otherwise we would have booked hostel beds as well. We had to take our belongings each time we went downstairs to make sure they are safe and it was uncomfortable for us. Please take some responsibility and fix your locks or accept your mistake without saying our private room comes without a key. Ridiculous.
The location looks amazing. The views are great and I think it’s the most beautiful location we’ve stayed in. Breakfast is provided. Not much variety but it’s not bad. Staff is nice and friendly.

United StatesWhat a great time we had here. Cool people working the hostel. Gimmelwald scenically was amazing. We got a private room. Shared bathrooms were nice. Pizza for dinner was good. Good beer/wine. As a guitar player I had some fun jamming with some of their staff. Very FUN place and vibe. Breakfast was more than we expected for sure. They bake the fresh bread there! Several Swiss people had told us Schiltihorn is the more scenic viewport versus Junfrau top of Europe. And Junfrau you go up via train which in tunnels most of the time. So we took their advice and went to the Schiltihorn via cable car and stayed up there for hours before going to check in at the Hostel which is on the same cable car route. I have to say that was the correct call! BEAUTIFUL!

AustraliaIt totally exceeded our expectations. Best way to spend our 25th wedding anniversary. Imagine waking up with a view of the Alps from your room, what could be better than that? Add the friendly and homey vibe of the place, the best pizza we've ever had, and guests and staff who all make you feel like family. Our experience was truly magical. We definitely recommend the Mountain Hostel and would stay here again next time we visit Gimmelwald.
