How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

No hair dryer. No lift. No tea making facilities. No staff for face to face contact. The fact I had to go to another location for breakfast.

When we booked, the check-in time was stated as 2pm, but upon arrival, the local instructions indicated check-in only after 3pm. Additionally, there was no locker available to leave our bags, so we had to inquire at a nearby hotel. Furthermore, there was a missing kettle in the bedroom.
The location is very good. Easy access to public transport and all the main touristic points. The room was very clean and organized and the self check in is very hand and easy.

Tiny tiny tiny room with saggy window shelf and minimal amenities. Self-checkin rather laborious. Unclear directions inside the building: I only realized I had to take the ratty stairs to the room because everything else was locked

One of the rooms didn’t had remote control or the tablet, so they weren’t able to use the tv. As well, the check in method is smart, but it has its failures. Our paper where the room number was got stuck so I had to go all the way to the other hotel just to ask for it. (Use the machine on the right). Also, the parking was really expensive! (25 CHF) but I guess is Switzerland, soo…
It is clean and well implemented, I really liked the smart tablet that they give you.

There is not lift. So for rooms on 3rd floor, you have to carry the whole luggage through stairs yourself. Also parking is an issue. The street parking usually gets full quite early so you have to look for place that might be 15-20 min walking distance from the hotel. The parking lot mentioned here is also relatively expensive!
The hotel is very ideally located in the city center. The room is a basic one and is perfectly suitable for a stay in which you are just in the hotels in the evening after dinner and leave to explore the city in the morning.

Sockets were very small not the standard one ,no updates in WiFi codes , TV was there but it was not straightforward to decipher how to use it.

Absolutely no facilities available, no personnel, impossible to contact the property. I had no curtains in the room so I had to sleep with a street light shining into my face

Well priced, does exactly what was advertised. Clean and value-for-money accommodation. There was no staff, this was OK since it was not necessary for basic room like this. I like the bathroom pod set-up, perfect for a bedroom like this.

It’s a basic, small but cheap room for a hotel in Basel, because Switserland is pretty expensive. Just a perfect stay for a one (or max. two) night stay when going on holiday by car.

Really small and modest room, very basic equipment. Beds not very comfy. Because of renovations in the building pretty noisy and dirty.

The size of the room is pretty small and the shower head kept sliding down.
The location was perfect and the bed was comfortable. Perfect for a 1-2 night stay. Check in was in a different hotel 100m down the road but the staff was very helpful.

It was not really clean... Also an power outlet was broken... It was too expensive for all that. It was loud even with closed windows. The remote controle was broken.
That the way to the Basel Messe was not that far away.

The double bed was just two single beds put together. If you’re looking for a more luxury stay, this won’t be for you.
The hotel was relatively cheap. If you’re just looking for a room to sleep and shower, this hotel is perfect. It has all the basics.
