Contactless check in not working which is not great if you arrive in the middle of the night . We had to ring the bell at the nearby Alexander hotel and waited for 10 minutes before someone came to check us in and inform us that there is no parking when it does mention private parking available when you reserve . We had to park at the Alexander hotel for 25 Swiss Francs No air conditioning or adequate ventilation in the room Lots of other options available for similar price if you include the parking fee . Not a very friendly person checked us in and it seemed that we had just woken him up when we rang the bell at the hotel

We specifically chose this accommodation because it had self check-in and we didn’t know at what time we’d arrive (after 10 pm). We didn’t want the hassle of having to call the hotel to make sure there’d be someone there. As it turned out the self check-in machine was broken and had to check-in at a different hotel. At the hotel there was no one there and had to wait 10 minutes for somebody to come. However, our names were not on the list so we couldn’t get a key to the hotel. The man (from the Alexander Hotel) was nice enough to offer us a room at their hotel (which was a lot nicer than the EasyHotel one). The point of booking a room with self check-in was to have the least amount of worries after a long day of driving. So it was frustrating to have to go through this whole ordeal.

The self check-in was broken. There was an actual large green booger (not mine) dried onto the sink. The walls are thin, noise insulation poor. The room looks like EasyJet started doing business class. The bathroom is extremely small, the shower gets the door and floor very wet even with the shower curtain pulled round. Bed is not very comfy. Okay for one night, but nothing more.

It was very close to the exhibition centre.

After staying in hotels and Airbnb places around the world, this was a disappointing experience. The smell coming from the toilet upon arriving back at the room on the second day was horrendous! Clearly something was wrong plumbing wise as no one had been in the room for twelve hours and just to be clear, nothing was left in the toilet! Lastly, being awoken by a cleaner who was singing very loudly was somewhat inconsiderate.

Location was good for a couple traveling on a budget with a short walk to bars, café's and tram stops. A 15min walk to the river was again good for us as walking around is part of the experience we enjoy. A free Basel Card (given at any hotel) was definitely a fantastic plus.

Check-in online is not personal. The cleaning staff open my door twice before check-out time. There is not kettle for coffee or tea. You could hear the sound of the cars in the street. Toilet too small.

The staff on the Alex Hotel was nice and let me leave my bag before and after check-in. That is nice.

Check in! I didn't believe other reviewers that this is an akward process but it is indeed. At first, it didn't take my card and the machine was unresponsive. The person on the phone I called for help was not interested in helping at all. In fact, he said its not possible that the machine doesn't work and just hung up on me. I didn't feel comfortable standing with my luggage outside in this area at midnight on my own as a woman holing all these documents for the machine input in my hands. I had to start the lenghty process of the online check in again and luckily, the second time the card machine was working. Why I had to pay another 8 CHF for city tax when the city tax for 1 person is only 4 CHF and arguably already on my booking.com bill, is annoying also. The room had several things that were broken (clothes hanger, bed light) or unclean (bathroom) and overall it was not a very comfortable room to maneuvre. The reception was closed also on the next day and I had to get my city ticket in another hotel around the corner.

The bed was comfortable and the staff next day was helpful in getting me a City ticket.

There are much better cheap hotels in the area, at the same price (Alexander or the Rheinfelderhof). This hotel is super basic … no lift, table, chair. Only two coat hangers, and a small plastic cubicle for the toilet and shower. The shower curtain looked like it would blow away in the wind. And there was a plastic bag covering the smoke detector which hadn’t been removed. And I had to go to another hotel to get my tram pass which I’d had to pay for via the chf4 city tax. There are no staff … everything is automated. Go elsewhere.

Easy self check in/out, good location, clean room, warm and good price for the room.

I had a problem with checking in (jammed papers at the self checkin station) but the staff accesed via reception button kindly helped to quickly sort out my problem. Huge thanks to them.
