Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomThere was a rambunctious cat behind the hutong who scared the crap out of us at 3 am one morning! But it has nothing to do with the hotel and we laughed it off once we realised what it was. :-)
Despite being used to staying in luxury hotels when travelling this hotel offered a home away from home, feel in the middle of Beijing. It felt like you were visiting family with the warm customer service and comfortable apartments. The on-site restaurants were fantastic as was the in-house bakery/delicatessen which had a bit of everything to offer. The pastries were amazing. From the moment I booked the room, the staff were in contact and ever so helpful for any questions that I had! Nothing was too much for them, and everything from train station, logistics, tours, and City information was provided swiftly and thoroughly with multiple options. Arranging the trip was akin to messaging a friend for information before you arrived at their home (via WeChat).

United KingdomIt was in the heart of old town Beijing and was very quirky and tastefully done but the best bit was how helpful the reception staff were … it’s not easy holidaying in China .. from ordering cabs changing money to sightseeing.. but they went out of their way to help us .. will definitely return

United KingdomI liked everything. Nothing to complain about. I want to come back and enjoy their company. Thank you to everyone at the Orchid. I loved my experience. Please visit and experience how lovely it is. Thank you again.
They were so accommodating, helpful, and hospitable. They helped us arrange airport transportation. We were leaving early in the AM so they asked if we want coffee or tea and packed us a bag of pastries. Love them!

GermanyWe had a little construction site right next to our room that spoiled the atmosphere a bit. Also one night one of the cats meowed for hours in front of our door because she wanted to get inside our room. No chance to sleep without earplugs.

United StatesRoom had a damp smell when I arrived but the staff worked hard to get rid of it, and did manage to. It would have been great to have some more horizontal surfaces to put things on, but that's a minor suggestion.
The staff were superb! Friendly and always available for helpful advice. Breakfast at Toast was fantastic. Exceptionally tasty. Room was spacious and very very clean. All in all a great experience, would definitely recommend and return.

United KingdomI was in room 2 which is tasteful and lovely, with a skylit section ( but possible to blackout); but it was below the'toast' restaurant kitchen, so from around 630am early morning banging and cooking sounds did intrude on my rest. Also low hot water pressure. Private car and driver arranged for day to take us to Great Wall, some very unnecessary stress from staff when we were running little late in the morning for our own car ! Good driver through.
A beautiful and stylish peaceful oasis in an old Hutong - a maze of alleyways - part of old Beijing. Close to history, lots of great eating and drinking options nearby. The onsite breakfast restaurant 'toast' - was excellent. The M.C. Escher like steps and rooftops provide views across the Hutong to the historic drum and bell towers. Super-comfortable bed, clean and fresh room, beautifully scented. Fresh fruit, water and tea provided. Most comfortable. All in all a great spot. Unique and well designed and executed. Good very useful info provided for forgein visitors. Helpful in arranging cars/ drivers. Staff speak good English.

NetherlandsThe only thing I can think of that I didn't like is that the heating system made a pretty loud noise which made it hard for me to fall asleep. I was staying there in winter time - January, and I was worried that if I'd turn the heater off the room would become cold at night. Luckily I found out that the room stays warm throughout the night if you heat it up before you go to sleep, so problem solved ;)
The Orchid's location is fantastic, in the middle of Beijing's hutongs (great area to walk around and get lost in) and close to the drum & bell tower, nanluoguxiang and even the forbidden city is only a 10 minute bicycle ride away. The hotel itself is lovely, it's like staying in an tiny old Chinese village. Staff is wonderful too, very helpful and friendly. As for places to eat around the hotel - try Mr Shi dumplings in the same street as the hotel, highly recommended!

SwedenThe draining system in our shower was not good, it floods half of the bathroom after each use. The Cantonese dim sum restaurant's service fell short in comparison to the hotel's standards.

United StatesThe shower pressure was low, and it felt like you could not take a long, hot shower. A lot of the hotel's bar, restaurants, and shops were closed around the Chinese New Year. Because it is an old courtyard style hotel, the floor is like walking outside. Since it's on the ground floor, our room hand some ants.
The staff is very foreigner friendly and all speak very good English. I would typically recommend the Garden or Courtyard rooms. The Private Residences are located in a separate area, and not as "fun", but better if you are traveling with a small family or need more privacy. Breakfast at Toast was included.

ChinaThe property is unique. From the outside, you are amongst decades/centuries old buildings, but when you set foot in the property, there is a blend of modernity and tradition. The rooms are very well kept and equipped with everything needed for a comfortable stay. The breakfast at Toast was delicious! The staff are very welcoming and helpful - a note on that: when we checked in, we received a little map of the area with different places highlighted. Although we actually live in Beijing, we utilised the map and found some hidden gems in the vicinity.

IsraelThere was nothing major that we didn't enjoy, just some thing to take into account: there were no chairs in the room, and no full-length mirrors, just a small one in the bathroom, and our particular room didn't have a lot of windows with a view, however it was not an issue at all and we saw that other rooms had huge window walls but they had to close them with curtains anyway because of small spaces with people walking around. Not all taxis are able to reach the hotel entrance because it's a residents-only street, however it's just a minute walk from the major street where taxis stop, so not an issue.
This is a truly unique hotel experience that is definitely value for money and an overall highlight of our Beijing visit. The location is just perfect – inside the traditional neighborhood but walkable distance (which is very rare for Beijing) to shopping, bars and tourist attractions and very close by car (10 min) to the Forbidden city. The hotel is very interesting in it's design, you can keep discovering spaces throughout your stay. The breakfast is amazing – you can choose between two restaurants (mediterranean/israeli and cantonese) and it's ala carte with delicious dishes. There is also a great bakery, a cool hidden cocktail bar. But the hotel staff are the real highlight – they helped us with every question, made our plans tourist goals be met more efficiently, spoke english well and were really friendly. As for the room it was also very convenient and pretty. We had two double beds (in a double room!) and a projector to watch movies. There was a teapot, tea and even everything to make a drip coffee (beans, grinder, filters) they welcomed us with fresh fruit and candy, the floor was warm and there was additional heating through AC so it was very warm even though we were on the ground floor in january. Overall a great experience!
