The shower does not drain and the water floods the section where the toilet is and leaks outside. This was really not a big issue for me as I am still young but it could be safety hazard for an older individual or a child. I can only assume that the plumbing is over 500 years old, issues are expected. There is a bit of mold in the floor of the bathroom but slippers for shower are provided.

This hotel is inside the ancient city, it is convenient to explore the city. Fast check in and out Pleasant staff Hotel is not crowded. I only saw one guest throughout my one day stay The next day, I got up early and I was able to walk the entire city (no crowds) I felt very safe The hotel does not have a restaurant, however one is not needed; there are numerous restaurants in the city. I ordered from Meituan. Breakfast the next day was simple but more than enough for me: toast, jelly, fried egg and bacon. There are also numerous options for breakfast in the city. I enjoyed my stay very much, will definitely stay again. Tours that you can take: Wang’s Courtyard is 30 minutes by car and Zhangby’s Fortress is about 30 minutes from Wang’s Courtyard. Traveling tips: To get to Pingyao by train: Beijing to Pingyao: only a few times per day (This is the best option if you are coming from Beijing) Otherwise: Beijing to Pingyao or Shanghai to Pingyao Air China Taiyuan to Pingyao: Rake the fast train that is ~ 30-40 minutes. Business class is 56 rmb Coming back to Beijing (If you miss direct train to Beijing) -Pingyao rail station to Taiyuan South. ( Do not get off on Taiyuan station, you must to go Taiyuan South) I got off the wrong station and had to take a taxi to Taiyuan South which is about 15 minutes with light traffic Taiyuan South to Beijing: 3 hours by fast train. Great location. Excellent and helpful staff. Loved the property. You are in the heart of the ancient city. The light and sound show is almost next door. Arranged complimentary pick up from station and drop off at station. We would have missed the light and sound show if not their coffee shop staff had not advised us. They also gave us beautiful mementoes when we were leaving.

Beautifully presented hotel in the heart of the old city. Step outside and you've stepped into historic china. The staff were kind and courteous and did their best to make sure our stay was comfortable. The room was beautifully presented and had the heat and lights on when we arrived. Breakfast was good. The pickup and drop off at the train station was a lovely addition which made our stay smooth and comfortable. Very happy with the experience.

The locks on the doors were using padlocks. It took me some time to get used to this.

A fantastic location with a team of friendly staff. As it was winter, the place was generally quiet. However, the walls are thin and you could hear the noises from the corridor. Rooms were clean and cosy. Had a pleasant stay at the hotel. Great place!

The lighting positions in the room were poorly thought out. There were no reading lights and the rest were in unsuitable positions. The walls had stains but we realised the wall material meant they were hard to clean.

The breakfasts were ok. I had Chinese and my wife had western. It was difficult to explain the finer details of our preferences but it wasn’t really a problem. The coffee flavour quality wasn’t good. The hotel itself was quite beautiful. The staff were very friendly and helpful to the best of their abilities. Good location in the middle of the main tourist zone but quiet despite that.

Probably unavoidable for such an old property, but the soundproofing in the room was lacking (flushing toilets etc in other rooms could be heard). Breakfast in the next door Luckin Coffee cafe is rather limited and uninspiring.

The hotel is excellent. They came and pick us up and dropped us off at the train station. They communicated with us and arranged the transportation to arrive at the facility. The hotel has an excellent location, right in the Pingyao main street. There are lots of restaurant and dining options available. The room was really comfortable and clean. The hotel lobby (patio) was astonishing and very welcoming to the visitor. The breakfast was excellent. The hotel staff was really friendly and kind. We will stay again at this hotel!

The breakfast is nicely done, but pretty simple. No western breakfast was available and only one drink was included in the price.

The property was at a great location, directly in the heart of the Pingyao old city. Staff was helpful, nice, and the hotel was a mixture of traditional style and modern style. The pick up service from the train station was exceptionally comfortable and may be a good reason to take the hotel.

location in Pingyao old city was best. The location is far from the high-speed train station, but the hotel provides a pick-up service. So, you don't need to worry about the distance between the hotel and the station

Not worth the 5* rating AT ALL ! More likely a 3*. Slippers dirty and re-used between clients without cleaning (the soles were dirty). Room didn’t feel clean at all. Futon rooms on 1st floor and very small compared to normal bed rooms. No elevators so bear in mind you will have to climb steps. It does NOT look as clean or as nice as on the photos. Staff refused to modify my booking at first claiming « they don’t know how to do it » despite having free cancellation with our booking, and we needed intervention from a chinese-speaking person to get our refund (with 60 yuans of fees despite free cancellation in the booking). Poor breakfast : only banana + bread + one egg / bacon. Similar every day. Only one cup of coffee. The staff does not speak English and is reluctant to clean the room.

Perfect location right on the Main Street, but really calm and quiet. The king bed room is comfortable. Good wifi. Free shuttle to gate and train station.

The photos and description on booking are misleading: the hotel has no longer a restaurant, the restaurant room has now been sublet as a coffe shop. Basic breakfast is served in this room before the coffee shop opens to customers and includes just eggs, bacon, toast bread and a cup of coffe. The rooms don’t get cleaned daily. Therefore considering the reduced service it is a little bit pricy compared to other hotels. I think the hotel should update its profile on Booking to reflect the changes to its service.

The hotel has a central location in the historical town of Pingyao within the city walls and it is within an old building therefore it gives a flavour of how the ancient city was like in the past. The rooms are comfortable and the staff is very kind, they offer a free pick-up and drop-off service from the railway station.

The room itself is a bit small and dark. The seats in the room are the most uncomfortable imaginable, can't really use them. The breakfast was basic, but with good coffee.

The hotel is in a terrific location, righ in one of the lively streets of the ancient town. The staff is very accommodating and trying to help despite the language barrier. The complementary pick up an drop off from the train station is greatly appreciated. The hotel as a whole has a lot of character.

As probably typical of the area, the lobby and eating area was completely unheated so an utterly freezing place to have breakfast in winter; not comfortable at all despite dining in a wool hat and heavy coat. Smelled a bit smoky
