Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

FinlandMost helpful & hospitable place where we got support for every single question and travel plan. All special requests were responded to, including him organising us take away dinner when everything was closed nearby after our schedule got a bit late. Breakfast (Western or Chinese if so requested) with coffee, comfortable beds. Quiet stay in a small village 15min didi ride away from the city, which is what we wanted. Exercise area around the village for joggers & walkers. He helped us to get to the rice terraces and with other logistics. communication smooth with translation apps.

NetherlandsEverything was so perfect!
The staff was so friendly and hospitable, he even invited us for a BBQ with his friends and we had such a wonderful evening! He also brought our suitcases upstairs to our room and cut some watermelon for us, when we arrived. The room was very cosy and clean and had all the facilties you need. It’s located in a very beautiful neighbourhood, which is very calm and cosy at night! We had a lovely view of the mountains from our window. You can ask him anything you need and he arrange it for you, like a beautiful private tour with a English speaking driver to the Longji Rice Terraces, fixing the tandem bike to a perfect hight, so we could cycle in the city, and a taxi to our train. Even though he could speak English very well, we could communicate very well via translate!

United KingdomWe had some mosquitoes in the room, however electrical mosquito repellent is provided for the room.
The host was extremely welcoming and helped us book transfers from and to the train station as well as a fabulous tour to Yangshuo and the scenic Li River. The room was spacious, clean and decoration was lovely. The host prepared fresh fruit and water every day for us to take away. Breakfast was excellent as a freshly made delicious Guilin noodle dish has been served. The place is in walking distance to Reed Flute Cave, but a bit far out of the city centre, so we mostly took public transportation and taxis to get around. There are some local eateries very close to the hotel. Although we do not speak Chinese very well, communication with the hosts was not a problem thanks to technology. All in all a wonderful stay! We definitely recommend the Secret Courtyard Resort Hotel to anyone visiting Guilin!

BelgiumThe heating is not fully warming up the room in winter. Would recommend to go in warmer times or take some warm pyjama's.
The owner is very friendly and always ready to help. The location is in a nice and tranquille area slightly outside the city center. A 5min taxi drive would get you to the city. The breakfast choices are reduced but the owner is willing to adjust if you ask.

This is a beautiful little hotel, full of character and comfort, in a beautiful setting, within easy reach of the city centre. The hospitality from our host was AMAZING - such a welcome (accompanied by fresh fruit and cold drinks) every time we returned back to the hotel.

ChinaUnfortunately the weather was not good while we stayed there and the bed pillows were a bit too small and insufficient to support you during the night, but this could easily be changed.
The manager (and receptionist/chef/guide) was very accommodating and went out of his way to help with day trips, transport and advice. The guesthouse was mostly very comfortable and located in a small village on the outskirts of Guilin that made it easy to walk into nearby villages and mountains.

United KingdomIt's not so much what I did not like, but note you would need a taxi for attractions within Guilin. There are some Chinese restaurants on the "island" in the immediate vicinity, but if you want more than that, you'll need to go into Guilin. Also note that if you are infirm, you should ask for a ground floor room as there are a lot of steep stairs.
The owner/manager was helpful. The room was a good size and it was clean. The car I ordered for the ride back to the airport was excellent. If you want to stay near the Reed Flute caves, this is certainly a good option. You can walk there in 20 minutes via a pedestrianised back route. The bed was very comfortable. Breakfast was for fit purpose, but not elaborate - a choice of Guilin Noodles or Eggs in Toast along with yoghurt and a piece of fruit. (If you want toast rather than warm bread, you'll need to explain that carefully). It was excellent value.
