Our room (I think it was #3) was a bit disappointing for the price. The decor was lacking compared to the rooms photographed on the website. The ceiling fan only had one setting (high), which made one fear it would break or fly off. Likewise, the air conditioner was old and noisy, but it did work. The bathroom would have been more comfortable with shampoo and body wash dispensers. Nonetheless, it had a small refrigerator and ample storage space for our belongings. The Internet was relatively stable, considering the location. For a place to sleep, it was more than adequate.

The location was great, and most of the staff were accommodating. Breakfast was filling, offering eggs, arepas, coffee or chocolate, and fresh juice. We were able to store our bags before and after check-out, which was very helpful.

Sometimes the communication was not that great (outside some language barriers)- with whomever operates the chat on Booking or Whatsapp, some questions had to be asked more than a couple times to get an answer, such as the excursions offered. There was no lock on the door when leaving my belongings inside my cabin, and while it seemed like a safe place, this was not really ideal. They organized the boat for me to return to Leticia from the property, saying that I needed to be down at the dock by 7:20, but they did not tell me that the boat wasn't even leaving Puerto Narino until 7:30am and would take 30 min to arrive; given that the boat missed the stop (despite being explicitly told) on the way there, this made me quite anxious without prior information. I would recommend going in with a mindset that things come as they may and to go with the flow- maybe don't have any time crunches if you get a little nervous with a travel itinerary.

I loved the staff that were present at the accomodation; they were very attentative and wanted to make the best of my experience. I loved the lodoterapia and the natural pigment drawing. The day trip to see the pink dolphins was really a highlight of my whole trip in Colombia! The food was absolutely incredible- maybe the best fish I have ever tasted. I really loved learning about the indigenous cultures in the area and some of the legends/ language from Rember and Segundo! I would return without a question and maybe even stay longer than 2 nights!

We weren’t there to watch TV, but the set was extremely old and only had a couple of very fuzzy channels. Bathroom was private but separate to the bedroom, which was a bit inconvenient.

- CONS: (as in: CONSIDERATIONS) * The central location means that there will be city sounds all around, especially during holidays. So bring earplugs if you are a light-sleeper like myself. (I use foam ones and they work like wonders. Plus, the amazon is not a destination to go relax so with all there is to see, experience and do, one is tired at the end of the night). * Another consideration is the accessibility. While MOST places in Latin America (and the EU) are different than hotels in the US with their elevators and large openings, it is important to know that breakfast is on the 4th floor (nice view) and there is a wooden staircase for the last floor. * The other consideration is that the hotel doesn't have an actual pool; It DOES have a nice tub (on the 3rd floor) but it has to be "rented" for an additional, considerable cost. THIS WAS NOT AN ISSUE!! I took my sweaty self and two teens a few blocks away to Hotel Real Amazonas, paid $15,000 Colombian pesos and enjoyed their big pool and spacious outdoor area until we got tired (they close the pool for non guests at 5:00 pm). What I like about this is that the Refugio doesn't have the noise associated with a pool crowd. So we went, had fun and came back to rest in our beautiful room.

+ PROS: Great room options for different budgets and needs. While it IS a hotel that focuses on being conscious of the environment, the accommodations are comfortable, the bedding is soft, the AC potent and not too loud and there is everything that you would find at a regular hotel. + Jhuliana and her darling mother are a power-team of hospitality. The are present, kind, welcoming, and ready to help you and your family/travel group have a great experience in the Amazon. They are locals and live in the hotel so they know the area, the people and know what to watch out for as well. I was very impressed that Leticia is a safe city but also super impressed that Jhuliana would lovingly guide me as to how to stay safer and who to trust openly - especially when it came to transportation and tours (@Amazonasparaviajeros). + Breakfast is plenty. While the variety is not ample, the offering is plenty - eggs to order (I varied from omelets, to tomato and onion scramble, and then pan fried), bread with butter and yummy jelly, juice and coffee and fruit (papaya, orange and banana). They are happy to accommodate your needs within that offering, but don't make them guess what you may need. Just ask with a kind smile and the are glad to see you happy! Plus there is a supermarket down the down with veggies, fruits, cereals and anything else you may want for your needs. + Location. El Refugio is centrally located in Leticia just a few blocks away from everything you need - restaurants, a supermarket called Hiper, pharmacy, shopping for basics that one may have forgotten and even a few places to get a cocktail and cool down. Transportation is easily found. The city is not very big so getting around is easy (even to and from the airport which is less than 10m away by tuk tuk)

I really liked the staff. I spent only one night in Leticia on my way to San Martin and the man in the reception informed me about a lot of free activities in Leticia Moreover I really liked how they cared about ecoturism and informed me about their measures Plus I loved their cat Marcel <3

Location. I didn't expect it to be on such a busy street and I didn't expect Leticia to hav eso much traffic.

We were a little apprehensive when we arrived as the hotel is located on a busier street that we expected. I thought the hotel was more secluded than that. But our room (#3) was at the rear of the hotel and we did not hear any street noise. The room was basic, but good value for the price and worked very well for our family of 4. It was clean and the bathroom, while basic, was adequate. The kids really loved the towel art! Breakfast was very good, with an assortment of fruit and cooked dishes daily. Freshly made juices and coffee was served. Customer service was top notch. They helped us with booking tours, restaurant recommendations and even got us a taxi to the airport. Amazing. Caveat - everyone only spoke Spanish. Wifi was very weak and hardly worked in our room.

we could not check in as it was 3 min before 1 pm (which is the official check in time), a bit complicated! long introduction talk during checkin about ecohostel and unnecessary information (as not having sex with minors), it was a bit too much.

Too expensive compare to other rooms we had in Leticia that were much more comfy and cheaper (the bed was not confortable and there was no window). Didn't feel very welcomed by the staff neither. Also be aware that it is not a jacuzzi they have but a bath with cold water and soap.

Very noisy. Busy street. Only allowed on the advertised terrace during breakfast, so this nice airy space with a view goes to waste. The plunge tub was not filled and so not working either. Large gaps around windows and over doors etc. where other people can see into the room.
