there where several spiders in the room, the sheets in the bed vas not clean. huge stains all over. you couldn’t close the windows completely and there were no like “animal net” over the windows either which you would kind of think it should be since you couldn’t close them. the bathroom is dirty. and the staff doesn’t know any English. it was a complete nightmare so I went to my friends hotel instead. like, I couldn’t stand it.

- NOISE from train HORNS. 0515 to 0730 and 1700 to about 2000. Then OK. -Room #4 is small and has no chair. Either sit on the bed or the toilet. HOWEVER the courtyard is at your door.

The staff was very nice. The location near restaurants was excellent. I always like a Spanish style courtyard. Price was ok to good. I will stay here again IF I can plan around the trains/noise. Backyard open air courtyard felt great.

The room smaller than we expected and the toilet was wobbly. The hot water was intermittent and at times we were showering with just trickles of warm water.

The hotel was aesthetically pleasant and the breakfast was good for the value.

What a place! I loved it. The owner loves her property and do the best for it and for customers. Big room. Near the night life of San Jose,but quiet. You feel safe to go around, day and night.

A very cozy hotel at a low price. It is very good that it is possible with pets. It took us a long time to sort out the hot water, but still it is there, you just need to wait-drain the cold. The staff is kind and helpful. There was a small problem, but it was solved very quickly!

Where do I start? I understand this is a very old, historic type building but everything had a dirty, poorly kept appearance. My room and bathroom smelled so bad that I had to spray a handkerchief with perfume and hold it by my nose to be able to sleep. No a/c just a ceiling fan. TV in room was circa 1980s with a very poor picture. Toilet seat was broken and slid around when sitting on it. Bed and bedding were very sub par. This place was so bad that I checked out after 1 night and didn't even care if my second night got refunded.

Breakfast was OK but cost $5 extra.

really run down room - urgently needs renovation. we got obviously the smallest and most ugly standard room. it was tiny and the bathroom was shabby, dirty, smelled bad and was so small - hardly to use. we left in the morning quite annoyed because we were told in the evening they have breakfast starting at 6.30 a.m. (instead it start‘s at 7). and we had to leave early because of our bus and the receptionist knew but still told us, that we can have breakfast there. also a train goes by the hotel, which starts already at 4.30 a.m. and is extremely noisy, hard to sleep…

I have stayed in this hotel a few different times. The hotel is an older house (I think) which has been converted to a hotel. My room this time had no hot water so that was not an easy thing, and also the hotel turns off the internet about midnight and back on about 5am. There is also a very loud train very close by.

Location for this hotel is great. It's in the heart of Barrio Escalante which is the best area in San Jose. it's got many great restaurants and shops and easy, safe walking areas. It's a very basic hotel, but the price reflects that.

The beds was so uncomfortable and you could hear the train horn like every 10/15 minutes all day and night. It was not so clean and the sheets had stains on it. Not worth the money.

The place was obviously cleaned every day (we saw staff members cleaning), however our room had a big issue with ants and other small bugs (a few spiders, gnats, a moth, and a couple other crawly bugs). Not unheard of in ground floor room in Costa Rica in a place with slatted windows, but it was pretty incessant for the one night we were there, even though we were careful to clean up and not have any food in the room. Bathroom definitely needed some TLC (wobbly toilet, sloppy painting, leaks and cracks around drains, ceiling, walls, etc.). Bed wasn't great though it wasn't the worst I've slept on.

Very friendly and accommodating staff. Rooms and property were as advertised. Hot water was available for the shower. Decent wi-fi and the directions to the location of the hostel were helpful.

Breakfast was weak :)). Just go down the street for food. Avoid tourist trap areas with a bunch of foreigners.

Room was rather small and old, shower had a leak. Noisy, some noise from other rooms or the surroundings seemed to be usual.
