Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesI don't like that Booking.com reviews start with the negative. However I would like to mention that the restaurants and bars were my least favorite part of the hotel and the only draw back of the hotel, I think they prevent this hotel from being the best it can be. It really is one of the most spectacular and special places I have ever stayed. (Luckily I didn't come for the food or dining, so it didn't impact my overall experience or enjoyment) The food itself was somewhat inconsistent and sometimes pretty bad. I really didn't enjoy the breakfasts, the options were strange (for example chicken burritos) and the toast was tasteless white bread. I loved the homemade strawberry jam and fruit. We tried all the dining options including the regular dinner menu, tico grill and the tasting menu. I enjoyed the tico grill experience and found that to be the best food. My significant other did enjoy his last meal and we both loved the pear tart on the regular menu and the ceviche on the tasting menu was absolutely delicious. I found all the menus including the tasting menu pairings to be a bit odd, and the wine list lacking (especially by the glass). The menu has many very Americanized items and very very rich food. I would have loved some more fresh, healthy and green options. The other thing I didn't like about the restaurants was that apart from the view of the volcano from the main restaurant the decor is quite depressing and the downstairs restaurant doesn't have any kind of vistas and it is tucked away in the darkness with some neon lights and a big TV with music videos playing (it is kind of strange aesthetically). The swim up bar was beautiful but the music was so loud and the music choices really distracted from the tranquility of the pool and gardens. Maybe some of the customers come there to party and like that vibe but I found it a bit jarring.
The best part of this hotel is the tranquility, the animals, onsite trails, the gorgeous facilities, lush rooms and the impeccable service. We especially enjoyed the guided trails, Krystal was the most wonderful guide. This is such a major component of the hotel that we almost didn't do. I'm glad the reception staff asked us one final time if we wanted to do it. This experience is not to be missed and we saw sloths and rare birds (we saw more on this tour than we did on an all-day, super expensive 6 hour external tour). The rooms were absolutely phenomenal, they were so well appointed and thoughtfully stocked with everything you need (including a hair straightener, eye patches, ear plus, toothbrushes, different teas, coffee, etc). The space was roomy, comfortable and clean (there are even dehumidifiers and air purifiers). The views of the volcano from the balcony were breathtaking and the animals and gardens surrounding us were bountiful and beautiful! I would sit on the balcony in the morning and eat h the clouds roll over the volcano. Wow is all I can say. I love the decor and materials used throughout the rooms, as well the hot tubs and tea and coffee setup. The stocked mini bar, proper tea kettle, tea cups and full bar setup are great touches. The shower, ooooh my gosh. Amazing! It was like showering in the garden of eden. I have never showered with the sounds of howler monkeys, hummingbirds buzzing around, and toucans flying above. The multiple pools, spa, meditation platform and gym were all fantastic. I didn't have an opportunity to utilize the gym as it was always busy when I went there. And I ran out of time to use the yoga studio. But I loved the vistas and how tranquil everything was. The spa was an unforgettable ultra relaxing experience. It was probably the most amazing spa experience I have ever had.

The cabins are incredible - so comfortable and well designed, luxurious and also nature friendly. We loved just hanging out I. Our deck and jacuzzi and the beds were divine. Clean and well kept rooms and gardens, good views, warm roofed swim up bar, 3 different restaurant options. Great food! Staff was nice.

United StatesNothing to do with the service or property, no fault of their own, other than being located in a rainforest, but at night the wind/clouds passing over made it close to impossible to sleep. Either the weather or the howler monkeys kept us from a good night's sleep. Definitely a different and interesting experience but if you hike every day, you definitely want good sleep.
The service was 5* throughout! Every time we wanted to go anywhere, we would call and within a minute there would be a golf cart waiting and our valet car waiting for us to depart. We stayed during Valentine's and to our surprise they had left a packet of goodies and an ice bucket full with glasses. The service is extraordinary overall! Would happily stay there again!

Czech RepublicBeautiful, stunning, really amazing place in the heart of the jungle. We loved these casitas. My husband owns an construction company and he was really amazed by chic and smart construction and detailed facilities. Wood, stone, glass ... nature in the nature. Also the surroundings, pools, restaurants (food was really delicious, thanks all of the staff), meditation area, wow. This is hotel type "must to come back". I wish, I want and hope it will not rain because this was the only thing I would like to change during our stay to be able to walk in the hotel forest trails. But this is also Cost Rica - rain and forest. Thank you ♥

PolandWe stayed in Amor over New Year’s Eve and had a special dinner that was waaayyy overpriced and not worth it at all! We got more alkohol than food, and the meal was really not worth its money.
A truly amazing place to stay! Facilities and breakfast top notch. We had relaxing yoga in the morning and it was truly one of the best yoga classes I’ve had.

United StatesOne word to describe my whole experience at Amor Arenal would be BREATHTAKING!!! From the moment I booked my 20th wedding anniversary trip, I counted the days to be at this luxurious and romantic destination. Nothing would prepare me what was to come. As you arrive you are greeted by an outdoor reception area that was truly beautiful. There you’re able to unwind with coffee, tea and cookies while they get you ready to check in. Marolin and Gabriel were knowledgeable and friendly. They made our welcome even more magical. Once we arrived to our casita the dream began. The casitas are absolutely amazing!!! They are so astoundingly gorgeous that you don’t even want to leave them. From the bathroom to your own private jacuzzi, it’s like a dream come true. The experiences they offer are also worthwhile. We reserved the Chef’s Corner with Chef Guillermo, an exceptional experience and delicious, mouth watering food. Chef chooses a 6 course meal which he pairs with his favorite combination wines. We had such a great time learning and exploring different pallets and chatting the night away with Chef Guillermo. He made us smile, laugh and drool with his creations. The other experience for our last night was the romantic dinner. Similar to Chef’s Corner, they choose a 6 course meal and pair it with wines of their choice. From the moment we arrived, we were taken into a magical romantic dinner. The ambiance, decor and music were some of the highlights of the night. Jose, took care of us and made sure we felt truly special. His sweet personality and attention to detail made it one night to remember. Both experiences will forever live in our hearts. Everyone who crossed our path, made us feel welcomed and appreciated. They made us rejoice in choosing Amor Arenal as our destination home away from home.

United KingdomThere’s no review that’ll be good enough to convey how amazing our stay was. Above and beyond 5 star service and accommodation. Staff were incredibly kind, friendly and helpful. The resort was spotless and rooms and facilities outstanding, with a very high level of cleanliness. It’s very safe and secure, making your stay very relaxing and peaceful. The hotel food is unbelievably good, high end restaurant quality. Best breakfast and dinner we have had at home and away. Plus they accommodated vegetarian dietary requirements with ease. Unique and iconic view would be hard to match from any hotel anywhere in the world. We were lucky enough to see lots of Toucans every morning at 5am flying by. The hotel concierge Jogebeth helped us arrange many excursions. These were seamlessly planned and we’d highly recommend as they were excellent and more reputable than booking individually. Jacamar and Callidryas were the operators and we were with Helen, Tito, Jason and Edson who were all super welcoming and made each so enjoyable. Hard to pick a favourite. Hikes around the resorts were fun and we did the longer one with Kristall and it was so fun being fully immersed in the forest surrounded by nature. An amazing memory to cherish. Saw a sloth and forest frog and some cool volcanic activity. This is the best hotel we’ve ever stayed at and it’d be very hard to beat. We’ll definitely be coming back. Points to note - the resort is hilly but you can call reception and golf buggy’s take you anywhere, at the drop of a hat - the wifi is excellent - Sleep on jungle time is encouraged with lots of light in the casitas, we would sleep between 10-5am - Waiter service is impeccable - Everything is very environmentally friendly and conscious
