Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesThere really wasn’t anything
I really liked everything about my stay. The room was clean and comfortable, and the view from both of my balconies was incredible. The staff was friendly and helpful and the service left nothing to be desired. The sand at this beach is the famous “black sand “and I found it beautiful. It is known for its big waves and appreciate it a lot by surfers. I am not a surfer. But I do love the sound of waves crashing, practically outside my window. The property was very quiet and is not located near any commercial areas or a lot of people. But it is an easy and cheap Uber ride into Jaco. The food in the restaurant there was also delicious, and fairly reasonably priced. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay there and highly recommend it.

United Arab EmiratesThe first room we were assigned was on the lower ground floor and had mold on the wall and smelt of humidity. They moved us to another room on the same floor and it also smelt damp. Seems to be a common problem so get rooms on higher floors.
The adults only pool overlooking the ocean was a nice treat after a long day. The rooms are spacious and the food portions at the restaurant are huge. Biesanz beach is a few minutes walk down from the hotel and it is worth the climb.

SwitzerlandThe location of our room was not ideal; it was on the ground floor not very good aired or seen by the sun, and as a result the high humidity of the place felt even worse (all our bathing suits, towels were impossible to dry). A dehumidifier device or services could be very helpful.
The hotel is literally located into the nature, where you could see monkeys jumping around the trees. The facilities were excellent especially the two pools. The staff is a huge plus for the hotel; from the breakfast to the pool and to arranging smoothly our desired activities.

RomaniaA wonderful, beautiful, clean place. Dream view, the road through the tropical forest to the beach was funny, interesting, the monkeys accompanied us to the beach. The hotel is modern, beautiful and very clean. Pools for families and adults only. Good food. But I appreciated the staff the most: Javier, Lizandro, Dereck always welcomed us in the restaurant with good cheer and smiles. The reception staff was also a 10. An unforgettable stay!

CanadaOur studio room with kitchen wasn’t well equipped. It was hard to make a meal. Stove was slow to heat and we lost water pressure in the kitchen sink often. I personally do not like hotels and the mentality of tipping everyone for everything. I can bring my own luggage, I can walk from the bottom of the hill to our room. I dont like not knowing if or when I should tip - not pleasant. For the price we paid for the room, decent wages should be provided to employees. Plus everything is in US dollars and thus, as a Canadian, way more expensive. Airbnb charges in CAD so less expensive option for us.
The property is well located near a small beach that is not too crowded. There are a few vendors but way less than on Espadilla Beach, which we didn’t enjoy. The right part of the beach where there are rocks is all sand. The left part is very rocky. The pool is great but it was way too warm - not at all refreshing. Happy hour was great since I wouldn’t have spent a dime on regular prices. Breakfast was great - a lot of variety and staff was also great. Monkeys came regularly to our balcony at dinner time - the intrusion was greatly appreciated even though we had to eat inside ;-)

United Statesone they cannot fix - geography -- heed the warnings, it is steep coming back from the beach (beautiful hike, but yikes) and because that road going up and down that mountain barely fits two vehicles, it's not exactly a walkable street if you or your family want to explore nearby eateries or the likeness -- it's best to taxi/drive or hit up places if and when you're already out. We found that once we got back to the Shana, we stayed at Shana. The second thing is housekeeping. They're really sweet and wonderful but they cleaned our space twice in our four night stay (our choice, not neglect). First time, they forgot to refill our towels so we had to request them. Second time, we came home from a day trip (around 3pm/15:00) and housekeeping was there. It was a little awkward and they rushed through bathroom and toilet and again, forgot to replace towels. Not a huge deal but if I'm being honest...
rare to find an affordable (relative term, of course) hotel of this quality that has private access to a beach with a nice pool (two actually!), in-house restaurant and bar, especially one as wonderful as Playa Biesanz - really really nice staff that do a lot to accommodate you and make sure you feel safe and welcome

United StatesThe hill to get up to the restaurant and main office was challenging, but they do provide golf cart transportation, so really not an issue. There was a pipe in our room where the refridgerater used to be that was leaking and that was bothersome. And the monkeys, while cute, are really more bothersome than anything.
The room was nice The restaurant was great, and the staff was really nice. The views from the restaurant were amazing! We would stay there again.

United KingdomWe had one small issue with one of our restaurant orders. After waiting for close to an hour for our meal, I checked back only to find that the order hadn't been entered into the system. The staff were very apologetic, but it was a frustrating situation.
We picked this hotel because of the (relatively easy) walk to the beach, and that worked out perfectly. The pool was also great for our kids, and it was awesome to be able to order food from the restaurant to eat poolside. Our room was amazing ... two huge king beds with a jungle view, and great AC! Breakfast was a buffet with lots of options ... not the best we had in Costa Rica, but pretty good and very convenient.
