Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesI wish the hotel offered a daily shuttle to La Fortuna for guests. Traveling there without a car left us reliant on ubers and taxis, as there is no walkable route to any of the attractions in the area except for Mistico.
The view from the room was stunning, Arenal volcano framed by the jungle around it. Room was its own little house on the hill, felt very private. Staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. Mistico hanging bridges are right across the parking lot from the hotel, very convenient.

Absolutely incredible views, swimming pool and breakfast at neighboring hotel, and comfortable large rooms.

United KingdomNothing :)
We stayed for just one night in a beautiful 2 bedroom lodge which was well equipped, very comfortable and clean. It was ideally situated for us visiting the hanging bridges at Mistico Park which was directly opposite. It's a little out of the way so you would need a car to get around ideally (we easily got an uber from La Fortuna) but the plus side of that is that it is in a truly peaceful location in the rainforest with plenty of wildlife literally on your doorstep and a lovely view of the volcano - it was so relaxing we didn't want to leave! A delicious breakfast is served in the hotel down the road but there is a courtesy bus that takes you there and collects you again, so it is no problem. The staff were all extremely professional, friendly and helpful. A really lovely place to stay, thank you.

United StatesI was in one room and my children in another. The room/bathroom has a forest overview, which makes you think you are safe having a shower with open windows. My daughter saw a drone flying in her room. I reported it to the front desk, and they were responsive. The next-door guest did have a drone flying; It made me feel very upset and unsafe. The incident ruined my pleasure and enjoyment of having a private, open-view room. There were no signals that drones were not allowed or mention of it at the check-in. I suggested it to be straightforward for guests. I heard a drone flying on my last day of staying. It happened after the incident—a disappointment.
I booked this property because of the Vulcan view. The front desk staff is very nice and willing to help. I have no complaints about them, only good things to say. Mystic Park has a nice walk, but I am not sure if it is worth $32. Everything in Costa Rica is costly. I highly recommend Sky Adventure Zip Line. It is expensive, but safety is worth the price. The restaurant at the facility is excellent.

United StatesIf there is one draw back (and we certainly didn't consider it a drawback) it is far away from the area where the restaurants, stores, and tour locations are located. But honestly, we would stay there again without hesitation!
We knew this was going to be a beautiful place, but we had no idea what would greet us. It is the most beautiful location we have ever stayed in! In the middle of a national park, and so calm and serene! The staff was so nice and helpful! I would stay there again in a heartbeat. LOVED IT!

United KingdomBreakfast is at another hotel. It wasn't too much of a problem to drive there but slightly inconvenient and definitely wouldn't recommend walking there (big hill!)
Brilliant location for views of Arenal and access to the Mistico Hanging Bridges, quite remote so would definitely arrive during daylight. Great to wake up in the middle of the wildlife and the room was great - loads of space, really clean and modern. Loved sitting in the hanging chair on the balcony trying to spot animals.

United StatesNice modern unit, but disappointed in the view, which was more jungle and parking lot than volcano. We had hoped for more for the price. The lack of storage space in the bedroom was annoying. Very helpful, pleasant staff. Nice breakfast and pool privileges down the hill a bit at the Lost Iguana hotel. The best thing about staying here was waking up to the brilliant sunrise over the volcano. Being right at the entrance to Mistico Park meant that we could roll out of bed and enter the park at the crack of dawn when it was still nearly totally deserted.

United StatesThe room was great but the floors were a slippery because of the humidity and slick surface. Wet shoes made it worse. I wish they would've had some mats at the entrance and the slider to deck. A few area rugs would be a great upgrade.
Sangregado is off the beaten path away from the hustle and bustle of La Fortuna. Each unit is separate and includes a wonderful deck that overlooks Arenal. It feels like they built the units in the middle of the jungle, with amazing foliage and sounds all around (surprisingly no bugs). The property is next to Mistico Hanging Bridges which is a must-do tour with beautiful hiking paths and amazing views. We walked from the hotel to Mistico and started our tour at 6am before the crowds. The restaurant is a short 3 min drive down the street at the Blue Iguana hotel. We had dinner and breakfast there and were thoroughly impressed. The Sangregado staff (especially Francisco) was very friendly and super helpful.

United StatesGoing in and out of the parking area was a little frustrating, because we had to go through a guarded entry to the area every time. The parking lot was a little hike from our room in the rain, but could have been worse.
An amazing breakfast and room! We loved the scenery and huge balcony. It felt like we were in the middle of the rainforest!
