How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews

There were a few things to improve: one of the rooms were smoky. I guessed the previous guest smoked there and left a smelly room. The door couldn’t block sound from the hall way. So if other guests are loud, you would hear it. The last thing is the Wi-Fi, same as other guests said in their reviews, it’s not very stable.
The hotel was easy to find and the front desk was nice. He gave clear checkin instructions to us. The first impression of the hotel and rooms are really good. It’s small but clean, organized. We had a nice stay there.

Clean hotel located walking distance from the city center. I had a room on the top floor with a rooftop window. Bed was comfortable, and bathroom was suitable for my needs. The decor may appear a bit outdated, but everything functioned like it should. Would consider it again if staying in the city.

A surreal mix of modern and desperately needing modernising. The corridors are quirky orangey marble - stylish but dated wrought iron banisters with a weird voile curtain before the end of the corridor - felt a little creepy. I'm not sure the room has been planned with the weary traveller in mind - no bin liner in the bin and after many hours of travelling, one needs to empty out those sandwich crusts and tissues and receipts etc. that seem to amass during the day and it was a bit odd flinging all the crud into a tub. Bathroom half over-modernised but odd mix of old and new brown tiling in the shower made it a curious (but clean) experience. Just felt a bit under-loved with no clear style, joy or pride coming across. With a husband very allergic to feathers, I always put in my booking "no feathers in the bedding, please". However, on arrival, we checked and were told that they only have feathers and hadn't responded to my statement because it was "only a suggestion" and not a direct request. They managed, eventually, to find some non-feather pillows and, after further negotiating with the boss over the phone, announced that they will be investing in some non-allergenic bedding for such requests in the future. In the meantime, my husband was able to borrow some car blankets from the friends we were visiting and sleep under those - not ideal but meant we could sleep without medical intervention being required! I don't think it's standard to have a kettle in the room in Germany so we weren't surprised not to have one. The reception desk is only manned for short periods each day.
Location was great - very quiet, near where we needed to be and not difficult to find - good road signs directing us to the hotel. Parking was easy and it was spotlessly clean throughout the hotel. Fantastic water pressure in the shower. Comfy bed. Courteous member of staff - if slightly out of his depth.

Hugely nice receptionist waited for me until 9.30pm even if chieck-in supposedly closes at 8pm. Newly refurbished room, free Wi-Fi.

Parking was not always possible at the property, had to find a place in nearby streets, which was full of cars. Wifi was really poor, slow and sometimes absent. Small terrace outside for breakfast was not always pleasant to sit there because of smoking people. Most of the time reception was not manned.
Simple hotel, nothing fancy, but value for money. Breakfast was good, choice of bread and dairy, eggs, juice, all OK. Some tables outside, which was nice to get some fresh air. Good if you just need a place to sleep and breakfast.

Price was too high, especially for the location and the minimal size and comfort of the room. Messages sent to Hotel Franken through Booking.com did not reach the hotel, therefore we got bedding to which we were allergic and we didn't sleep well due to that. The front desk was hardly manned, which made everything more difficult than necessary. The water pressure in the shower was super low.
The room was clean and quiet. Staff communcated with us nicely.

The toilet cannot be locked. The bed is narrow. There is only one shower curtain, impossible!! The service at the counter could be more professional.

Staff lacked engagement. Wanted to feel welcome and that they were interested in your stay. Lacked atmosphere. No coffee/tea facility in the bedroom. The restaurant was separate 50 meters down the road and when we arrived on the Sunday it was closed.
Breakfast continental and was good. They were working hard at making improvements especially outside.
