Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

GermanyWe were unsure about the AirCon. Not needed these days, but to cool down we were unable to activate it so we opened the window. Maybe it is disabled at winter time. The only major issue we experienced: the doors are not sound-proof and the wall between two S-Type rooms neither is kept sound-proof (only one side exists of a solid wall. We got the impression there is sound-leading connection between two rooms in this wall. I am pretty sure where the TVs are installed they drilled the connections deep enough to reach the back of the other side which leads to the sound-connecting from that TV of the other room for example. We were listening to the neighbors TV (room 424 was ours). However, since we always sleep with ear-plugs it was not such a big issue, but as mentioned before, the door is neither sound-proof. There is room for improvement.
Let me start with the most positive thing: the breakfast! To be honest, I ate worse for more money in even five star rated hotels. Despite of the fact that you get a mix of buffet and a la minute dishes, here you really cannot miss anything. A broad choice of various dishes, fruits, sausages, hot dishes, juices, teas, bread – just everything you expect is presented to you till 1pm in the afternoon. Wow! Everything got refilled immediately, there was nothing empty whatever time we showed up. Which leads me to the breakfast service: most friendly and attentive guys I ever met. There is nothing we could complain about. You got immediately seated and asked for your choices, you got picked up your dirty plates immediately and as mentioned before, they refilled everything immediately. An outstanding service, extra class! Continuing with the rooms, all very clean and cozy. We went for the S-Type rooms, which are small but still okay. All looks new, at least refurbished and really nice. The beds are comfortable, the room is nicely done. The bathroom is spacious and looks brand-new. The room-service is really quick and professional, highly appreciated. In general, the style of this hotel is absolutely modern and nicely done. The WiFi works perfectly. In general we would go again since the area where the hotel is located is nice and close to the train station and Alster. We can recommend this place for sure.

United Kingdom- reception explained that they would have to refund the deposit in cash as they can’t credit me back. I find this surprising as even hotels in the middle of the Pacific Ocean can credit a card. Thankfully it wasn’t necessary as I had used up more than the deposit. - it takes a while to get someone on the phone from reception at times and I had to call room service for matters that are more house keeping related like having dental kits. - I believe toothpaste is now an expectation is a luxury hotel. I had to request a dental kit and sadly had to waste the brush as I just needed a travel size toothpaste. - One of the soft curtains had a tear, hard to notice at first but significant enough. I had long black hair in the bed. I’d recommend a closer inspection for a junior suite. - it would be great to have Bluetooth speakers that play in both the bedroom and the bathroom (the bathroom TV does not seem necessary. Maybe a tablet would be more useful). I think the features are based on a dated lifestyle and need to be updated for millennials who only need: Bluetooth speakers, TV, Netflix and wifi for their mobile phones (and maybe a tablet, too). - the pillows are as soft as a duvet. It would be great to have one soft and another medium.
- great location - friendly and helpful staff - the gentlemen who bought me breakfasts and cocktails were extremely nice. As well as the young lady who brought me the toothpaste. - layout and furnishing of the junior suite is comfortable and tasteful. - I like that the wifi connects without entering codes on several pages. This is such a relief as it’s really annoying in other hotels.

GermanyThe bikes were very basic and could have been a bit higher quality. Room was quite small but that is probably what you get when you book this Deluxe rooms... My wife did not like the dark hallways to the rooms.
Liked the bar area in the evening. Location is ideal for reaching restaurants at the Aussenalster and in the backstreets. Interior is great especially the british living room.

GermanyThe quality of the attached Bar decreased, we had some bad experience with the behaviour of the service staff and the music ambiance is not matching the environment. The service and the music used to be much better. Anyhow the barkeepers will surprise with their skills if you are looking for exclusive Cocktails.
The interior is lovely and the hotel is very quite. The area is just perfect for walks and strolls around the Alster, Buses just stop in front of the hotel, but you could walk towards the inner city or central station. There are plenty of Cafes and Restaurants around.

United StatesWe did not expect to pay for breakfast, which was quite expensive. Borrowing bicycles should also have been included, perhaps with just a deposit.
The George Hamburg is a beautiful hotel, and our room was very comfortable. We appreciated the excellent access to bus lines that brought us quickly to the airport, the harbor, and everywhere else we wanted to go. We rented bicycles to ride around the city. Staff were very helpful. Breakfast was excellent, though a la carte.

DenmarkWe had some issues with noise in the room coming through the walls. Maybe it was aircon machinery working extra hard as the outside temperature was quite high. It was a constant machine noise coming from all walls and especially loud in the bed. We told the staff right after check in and asked for another room. They were not exactly helpful and just offered us earplugs. After 2 nights I asked again and a very helpful staff member (Nina) got us another room. Cleaning staff did not respect the "do not disturb"-sign and woke us up every morning. Smoking was allowed in the outside restaurant. Not so nice when having breakfast.
Beautiful, stylish hotel in an excellent location. Close the the Alster Lake and all the shops and restaurants in Lange Reihe. Room was nice with a big window, comfortable 160 cm wide bed, coffee machine and fridge/minibar. The roof terrace was unfortunately closed.
