The hostal is quite rundown. My bed was full of bedbugs. However, the host reacted to it quickly and gave me another room to stay in while starting to clean the infested room.

WiFi was pretty ropey, kitchen not amazing but we did ok, hardly anyone staying there despite it being massive (and saying no rooms available)!

The hot water in the shower doesn’t function properly. Waited a long time for hot water then it turned cold so quick.

It’s convenient as it’s near the bus terminal. The staff that helped us check in was very nice and helpful.

it was very hard to take a hot shower, the hot water didn’t last more than 3 minutes, then i had to wait for 5min more so it can be hot again. over and over

The rooms were small for having 2 backpackers luggage. The temperature of the shower was very difficult - either very cold or very hot.

Nice and friendly staf very helpful. We checked out at 11 am as supposed, and the staff told us a very nice hikking route and said we could just leave out bags until 11pm where we went to the bus.

the rooms were very small. shower temperature was a bit difficult to control. They are really missing out by not doing very much to make the roof sitting areas inviting - if they did something to make more comfortable and inviting, it would be perfect because it has a fantastic view!

internet was very patchy and not much of an atmosphere… our room smelt really badly of chemicals (there was some brown stuff in a bowl under the bed that I think was causing the smell) meant we spent as little time as possible in the room as gave us a headache.

Kitchen and items in it were not super clean, although that’s also on the guests (ie plates weren’t properly washed and had some bits of food on it). For some reason, we kept getting asked about payment and informed that our room was cancelled, but that was for the other room - we had to clarify around 5 times during our 2 night stay. In the morning when we had to leave early, even though reception should be open from 7 according to their note, the front door was completely locked and we had to call the staff to be able to leave - I think that’s unsafe in case of any emergency (for example a fire).

- The walls of the bathroom were rotten with black mold - There was only one towel for a double bedroom. when we asked for another, the staff guarded the towels like a dragon protects its lair until the (friendly and polite) owner arrived - The staff tolerated a large group of girls partying in the patio until after midnight, therefore the night wasn’t very relaxing.

- The laundry service handled our wool socks carefully

The rooms in the Timara1 part were quite small, same for the common bath. Very little space to move around or to store things. Water in shower partly only cold, but here the staff quickly helped and provided a solution.

Friendly and helpful staff, quick and uncomplicated help with any issues, provided lots of helpful infos for the stay at Baños, incl. assistance with organizing trips. We checked out later than normally required, but this was okay for the staff and came without extra fees.

We paid 8$ for bike rental at the hostel .. later found out that it's usually 5 to 6$ at other places (obviously that was our own fault and stupidity). So do your research before you book tours with the hostel. No bins in the room which was very annoying. It's a very simple thing to offer for your guests. Only one shared bathroom per level which were occupied and dirty a lot of times. The room and bed was really tiny. Noisy as hell, you hear the people next to your room as uf they were standing in yours. We got used to it in Ecuador, soundproof rooms don't seem to exist ;) Anyway the owner and staff could at least try not to talk loudly as hell in the morning hours around 7am ... The thing that made our stay unpleasant was that the owner was acting quite weird. We wanted to extend one night. He told us it's not possible. We showed him on booking.com there's still availability. He came up with some weird explanations... in the end on the next day, 90% of the people left and the hostel was empty and he then said after we had to ask him more than three times if we can now stay or need to pack our bags, that it's possible to stay. It was an annoying forth and back. And in our opinion you don't treat your guests like that. Bañoa itself was during our 3 month travel through Ecuador and Colombia the city we likes the least and we left after two nights simply bcs the whole city is a TOURIST TRAP.

The location is great. The kitchen was well-equipped.
