Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

CanadaWhy do people have such difficulty realizing that they can close doors quietly with a bit of effort??? Other guests (pilgrims) can be really loud and inconsiderate...at the end of their Camino... so strange! Do they not notice themselves that the halls carry and amplify sound?? I do wish the management would place signs reminding people to try to be quiet in the dorms and maybe put rubber stoppers on the doors in the communal dining area so they don't SLAM! It is really stressful to hear this over and over again! Almost everyone I spoke to remarked on this. It is already a loud space with many people talking, but that's ok... it's the DOORS that are really a nightmare!
Huge albergue, accommodating hundreds, but so spacious you can feel like no one else is there at times. Great kitchen for preparing your own meals with a small "supermarket" that is very thoughtfully stocked (although the juice machine could be labeled to say that the juice contains added sugar!) The location outside the centre is relaxing, with lots of park area and local community nearby. I enjoyed getting acquainted with that part of Santiago.

AustraliaIt’s very large and sometimes you walk a bit to the bathrooms. It’s not far from the city centre but up a hill and through a dark park which may be an issue for some.
I booked a private room which was great. It still has shared facilities but you have your own washbasin. It’s worth the extra euro. Shared showers were hot and water was plentiful. Historical building is interesting. Hostel used to be a seminary.

AustraliaIt was very very large and sometimes it was a long walk to the toilets. Also they could have been better signed as a number of people went into the wrong toilet or shower room as a genuine mistake! The location is not too far but is up a hill and through a dark park which may be an issue for some.
Amazing historical place slightly out of city. Hostel dormitory without bunk beds. No curtains or private cubicles. Beds were typical and firm but everything was clean. Unless you are really broke pay the extra few euro for the private room.

CanadaIt is a huge building and the ladies bathroom was a long way from my room. I found the common areas quite chilly. The store downstairs could have more variety, some fresh fruit would be nice.
The room was basic but comfortable. I had a great view from multiple windows. There was lots of shelving and, although the bathroom was shared, there was a sink in my room. The staff was friendly and cheerful. The bathrooms were spacious and clean. The facilities were very good. Lots of beautiful spaces outside in which to relax, there is a park across the street.

South AfricaThe matress was uncomfortable and the wifi signal was bad in our room. (Our room was at the end of the residence) The location is about 1.2km from the Compostella and a lot of stairs.
The building is beautiful and the view from our room. As a pilgrim who just finished the camino a single room was amazing and for some privacy. They have good laundry facilities and a big kitchen with everything you need to cook a meal. The bus stop to the airport is a 10min walk.

CanadaShout-off showers' light-timer was definitely too short. A bit off a historical downtown.
It's a pilgrims' hostel, mostly dormitory rooms, but spacious and clean. No bunk beds. Modern bathroom and showers facilities. Nice view.

United KingdomWe were bitten by insects there, which we hope were not bedbugs!
Our double room was clean and had an en suite bathroom, which was a lot nicer than the communal showers in the building. Good cafeteria as well, and the staff were helpful.
