There were no instructions to check in emailed to me or on my booking.con profile. There was no one there, even at the specified checkin time. The sheets were dirty and the window coverings that were taped to the window were coming off. The fridge that was in the room didn’t work very well. The bed was extremely uncomfortable. We left after one night and didn’t get any refund (which was fine as that was their policy) but buyer beware. We found a better, cheaper (and safer) option and left.

Room was very small and not what was shown in photo and no exterior view. The floor surrounding shower was worn and wet as it is laminate wood and no matter where you stood the water escaped.

I got lost trying to find Bilbao Art Lodge and after a long journey I was completely exhausted. I contacted the hostel and the staff were just so lovely and patient with me, ( I was highly emotional). They put me in the right direction and stayed in contact until I arrived at the place. Although there was no receptionist, online checking in was very easy. My room was fabulous, it was spotless. The bed was so comfortable, I slept like a baby. The location was superb, walking distance to the Guggenheim museum, the old town and an array of shops and restaurants. There was a lovely bakery right around the corner that had the best coffee and freshest pastries, perfect for breakfast. I highly recommend this accommodation, and would definitely stay there again.

Unfortunately, there were a few issues that soured our experience at Bilbao Lodge. I would not come back to this property and would not recommend it either. First of all, the lodge is right next to a gambling place with very shady characters standing by the door at all times. Not a very nice welcome. Secondly, there was no one to welcome us (understandable at that point, since we arrived late in the evening) nor the following day or on the last one. We only saw the cleaner on the last day. Thirdly, the room was terribly dark and not too private: there was a window overlooking a (very sad-looking) duct and you could see and hear other people in other rooms. Apart from that, the room in itself looked reasonably fine. There was a small wardrobe and a desk, a little overcrowded but useful. Fourthly, the bathroom looked nice. But it was not properly cleaned and there were dangerous things all around. The edge of the shower plate was not attached to the floor and my husband got hurt with it the night we arrived (something the owner of the place did not seem to care about when we called to let her know of the safety hazard). Additionally, there was a handle for disabled users next to the toilet (a good thing) but it kept falling so it was difficult to move around with that thing blocking half the space. Lastly, we specifically picked a property listed as hotel in Booking because we needed to leave our luggage for a few hours on the last day of our trip (from check-out until 3 pm). This property does not offer the most basic services of a hotel: no reception, as one would expect at some point during the day, nor luggage storage, nor any kind of service or support throughout the stay. What ended up making our experience a bad one was that it was terribly difficult to contact the owner of the property. When I finally managed to do so, she was incredibly rude right out of the blue. Her answer to everything was "talk to Booking".

Access was simple through electronic messaging and codes. But there is no reception or public areas. This was possibly stated in the description which I hadn’t possibly hadn’t read. The room was very noisy almost incessantly, despite the triple glazing, loud traffic and at night very very loud revellers. Poor tea and coffee supplies. The area wasn’t the best.

The decor, fixtures and fittings were lovely. Great shower and bathroom facilities. Very comfy bed. The outlook was lovely with views up the various streets as the property is on five way junction. Beautiful traditional architecture.

To access the hotel you need to call using your telephone. I didn't have a telephone and it was a nightmare to get access to my room. You need to do something for people like me.

The wifi didn’t work, there wasn’t anyone in charge of the place at any time that could help us, the website said it was a king bed but when we got there it was just two twin beds next to each other, so there was an uncomfortable lump in the middle of the bed and the shower drain wasn’t working properly so the water would overflow

They have no one at the property, and after you pay they send you a link where you have to enter your credit card details and give a digital signature agreeing to pay any fines they might decide to charge after you leave! (One of the fines is if you make noise after 10pm! - I could hear noise from other rooms and in the hallway way after that time! (And on booking.com they claim to have soundproof rooms - complete and utter rubbish!)) This is scandalous! I would never have booked under these terms and they refused to cancel (even though I had only booked an hour earlier!) and Booking.com were of zero help! It was over 2 hours after I arrived at the property before I actually gained entry! The first impression lasts, it was a horrible experience, and because of the lack of help from booking.com I will be using other booking sites for the vast majority of my bookings. There are other issues with this place. As others have said, no views, there is a bad smell from the pipes and they try to mask it with air fresheners. There is a TV, but it is useless unless you have a personal Netflix account (it has no connection to an antenna, so internet TV is the only option). Internet access was sporadic at best! As someone else pointed out, there is a raised edge in the shower that you can hurt your feet on. The room was fairly nice, but don't walk around barefooted, as some of the boards have been poorly repaired and you could hurt your feet. A window was left open and there was quite a few mosquitoes in the room. There was 1 coffee pod and 2 green tea bags, not very generous for a 2 night stay. There was no one to ask for help from, I typed many messages, was extremely stressed and they ignored them. As someone else said in a review, "no kindness, no comfort", the owners are very cold, not helpful, only care about getting your money then getting you out by 11am. You never see them.
