Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United Kingdomnothing at all.
Casa Carmen is a lovely traditional house with all the mod cons you have at home. Location is fantastic about 2 mins walk into the centre of the old town square with the beautiful church and 5-7 mins walk down onto the lovely waterfront. it might be a challenge walking back up if you have any mobility issues . The house has everything you could possibly need and the roof terrace is a great bonus. lots of lovely restaurants and cafe bars within walking distance and the market arrives Tuesday at the bottom of the street. we loved the whole experience and Manu is a wonderful host with lots of tips and recommendations for walks or places to visit . would recommend in a heartbeat.

United StatesWe loved our stay at Casa Carmen. The house is located right in the old town area of Altea on a picture perfect street. The rooms were quiet, the beds very comfortable, and the kitchen well-equipped. We spent every evening before dinner sitting on the rooftop area looking at the mountains. We walked to the beaches every day and to the town for dinners. Just a wonderful place to stay - and we will definitely return.

United StatesBe aware that the owner requires a 150 euro cash deposit upon arrival, something that we missed when reserving because it is buried in the "more information" section of the listing. In all of our travels in Spain over 8 or so trips, we've never had to leave a cash deposit and weren't prepared for it.
This is a great house for a group and is well located and thoughtfully outfitted. The roof deck is terrific. It definitely feels like a rental for tourists, but it's also the kind of house you'd dream of staying in for a long time in Spain. It's wonderfully quiet. For the two of us, it was far more than we needed, but for a family or visiting group, it would be perfect.

United KingdomNothing.
Great location in old part of town near great restaurants, cafes and shops. Really stylishly furnished property, whilst remaining homely and comfortable. Nice size rooms and air conditioning/heating units throughout. Great size tv with access to Netflix which was helpful as we visited during the freak rain so it was nice to be able to cosy up and watch a film to get away from being soaked. Kitchen was well equipped and had extras such as coffee pods, dishwasher tablets etc plus a nice bottle of wine as a welcome gift.

SpainDark, humid and cavernous, hard to tell if it was sunny outside or not or even daytime. None of the windows or the front door close properly letting in noise from the street, neighbours, nearby building works and old town activity. It was hard to sleep even with sound machines and one of the bedrooms doesn't have windows so was very stuffy for sleeping. We didn't use one of the bathrooms because of a very bad sewer smell that came in from the shower. All of the stairs are very steep, not entirely safe and it was hard to carry our small suitcases up to the bedrooms. It rained one day and water leaked in through a plastic skylight onto the stairs. Some simple maintenance, replacing threadbare towels, raising ceiling lamps so they aren't in the way, etc. would make for a much more comfortable property. We had to meet him the proprietor when we were leaving so he could return a cash deposit he had asked for, in addition to what we paid through booking, and he said he was aware of the problems we mentioned. Edit: Added some photos showing where the water leaks in from the roof, the mold and marks on the walls are a pretty good indication that this has been happening for a while and not due to "excessive heat". It was cool every day when we were there and there isn't central heating so the apartment never got warm inside. It got smoky inside from the neighbours' wood stove or fireplace but it never was warm. Some basic maintenance and cleaning would go a long way here. Particularly the problems that the owner is aware of and is ignoring, according to how he described things when we spoke with him.
Location is good if you want to be in the old town but Altea is small so the many downsides don't make up for it.
