Matteo was the perfect host for the perfect stay. There’s so much to love about the surroundings - the dogs, cats, rabbits, donkeys, the mountains and eating breakfast/dinner outside. It’s definitely the best stay you can get in like 50km radius - don’t even hesitate!

Beautifully restored property in a very scenic and tranquil situation. Very comfortable beds, big airy rooms decorated with great taste. Delicious home made breakfast served on the terrace with magnificent views, serenaded by copious birdsong. Very attentive host and an endless source of information. The casa rural is almost entirely auto-suficient energy-wise, it is good to see you can be respectful of the environment and enjoy a very comfortable and exquisite stay. We travelled with our large dog and he was welcomed. There are fantastic walks to go on with your pet from the casa, as well as the garden grounds of the property. The property has a fabulous and large games room and guests have access to a well provided kitchen for its guests. Parking is available. It is meant for longer stays than ours, as we only stayed for one night on our way down to the South. Even so, we were very well looked after. I wished we’d stayed longer.

This place is amazing. Views, the host, the animals, games room, location to lots to see, you could go for lots of hikes if you wanted. Good for relaxing. I didn't want to leave. Everything was just wonderful

Spotless, high-end home with a lovely yard and spectacular views of the valley. We enjoyed sharing the well-equipped kitchen. Matteo was friendly, efficient and gave us great suggestions for local places to visit. He served us a tasty breakfast. We liked the sustainability energy that served the home.

A wonderful off-grid landaetxea run by a family. Although it is a winter time, we had a very nice hike. Normally, there are great hiking routes around. Matteo is ready to help and suggests routes. Also, he is a great cook. One night we had dinner made by him and it was delicious. Sustainable, socially-aware, and helpful owners with a great landaetxea.

The location of the house is beyond beautiful - the perfect combination of modern and rustic set in idyllic surroundings. Matteo was the perfect host, completely accommodating in every way. He was chatty, pleasant but without being overbearing. He catered for every whim and gave great information about the area and recommendations as to where to go/what to see etc. Breakfast and dinner were exceptional; Matteo is a wonderful chef. Dinner was always varied with lots of options as well as delicious local produce (wine, cider, and home-grown vegetables). I asked my son what he enjoyed most about the stay and unsurprisingly he said 'the games room (especially the table tennis and tight rope)'. There is a lot of space for kids to safely run around, they can feed the donkey's and dogs and use the games room. The other facilities are also great, the communal kitchen had good facilities and the spa/jacuzzi bath in our room was superb. We could not rate this more highly and would recommend for everyone to visit.

Stunning location. Matteo is very kind and helpful, and breakfast was terrific. The quiet area and beautiful scenery made for a wonderful welcome to Spain. The rooms were wonderfully decorated - it looks like it is out of a picture book. The location is great; you are close to Bilbao and the coast, and it was a short drive to San Sebastián when we left for our next location. The animals add some extra fun if you have kids. If you want a peaceful stay, definitely stay here!

Casa rural Abatetxe superseeded our expectations! Matteo was the perfect host and his cooking was better than most restaurants we visited. We especially liked the eco-friendliness of Abaxete, the shared kitchen facilities, the dogs, the conversations with Matteo, the tabletennis and of course the breathtaking environments. An unforeseen bonus during our stay was seeing the peloton of the Clasica San Sebastian cycling race drive by along the nearby road! Thanks for everything Matteo (and your Uruguayan volunteers!)
